Benadryl to a 1 Year Old?

My husband and I are in a battle over benadryl. Our daughter has hand foot and mouth and she cannot sleep due to the mouth sores and sore throat and overall aches and stuff that comes along with the disease. He says we should let her get a good night sleep and give her some benadryl. I SAY NO. We first of all do not even know how much to give her because kids arent supposed to have it until they are 6!! He also says when we go to Hawaii in June we should give her some to help her sleep the flight away. I totally disagree. Have any of you...

Infant and Benadryl

My 8 month old son weighs 16 pounds, 12 ounces and his doctor prescribed 1/2 teaspoon of Benadryl before bedtime. Everything I read says not to do it unless they are a year old. I'm afraid to give him the Benadryl. Has anyone given their child who is under a year old Benadryl?

Cold, Runny Nose Advice

My 18 month old has her first cold. She has a runny nose, and drainage that made her gag and throw up a little last night. I could hear that she has a lot of drainage and was having trouble breathing through her nose. I have been SO very lucky that she has been a very healthy child. She just started in a Mother's Day Out program, so I am sure she'll begin to pick up more germs. Can anyone give me advice on alleviating cold symptoms and what to watch for, in terms of this moving to an ear infection? Should I use the humidifier? Vapor rub?...

Son Wakes with Stuffy Nose

My son who is 14 months old usually wakes earlier in the morning than usual (6 am) with a stuffy nose. Once he is up he wakes up completely after his nose has been cleaned out. Rarely he will not have a stuffy nose in the early morning and sleep until 7. His schedule gets all off waking up an hour earlier (he'll take 2 naps and then go to bed late), plus I would love to have that extra hour of sleep. I've tried everything from humidifier to vaporizer and it still never fails in the early morning hours he gets such a congested nose he wakes...

Red, Swollen and Itchy Right Ear

Hello everyone, I have a 5yr old son who woke up this morning with his right ear red, swollen, and itchy. He said it does not hurt and it is only on the outside from the top to almost to the earlobe. I thought it was a bug bite of some kind but I can't see a place where it would've bitten him. He has not had an ear infection ever. I was just wondering what it could be. I am putting Benadryl on it. He doesn't complain at all. He just says mommy why is my ear fat? lol Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you all very much!!

Hand Foot Mouth Disease

Hi Ladies, I just took my 19 month old daughter to the pediatrician this morning to try to figure out what this rash was that was breaking out on the palms of her hands and soles of her feet. I had looked up Hand Foot Mouth Disease online prior to taking her in and it sounded similar but the photos looked different. The pediatrician said that it was most likely Hand Foot Mouth Disease even though it didn't look like the classic case. He said that there is really nothing that we can do about it and that we just have to ride it out. I am...

Allergy Meds While Pregnant

I was hoping someone might know of an allergy medicine that is safe to use during pregnancy. I get chronic sinus infections from my allergies. Last time I was pregnant I was on antibiotics almost every other week. I'm really dreading going through that again - I have a 2 year old to keep up with! I had been taking the generic form of Nasonex and doing fine, but the pharmacist told me it's not safe during pregnancy because it has steroids in it. Any ideas? Thank you!

Is It Eczema?

My 7 month old has been having these dry, rough pinkish places come up like on his arm in the inside crease of his elbow and on his face. I know he suffers from allergies, he is so stuffy more so at night, and since allergies and eczema go hand in hand thats what i think it is. should i take him to his pediatrician or an allergy specialist for diagnosis?? our pcp is so vague she may just say "yeah it Could be" and that be it. And if it is eczema how do you treat a baby?? thanks moms:)
