Son Wakes with Stuffy Nose
My son who is 14 months old usually wakes earlier in the morning than usual (6 am) with a stuffy nose. Once he is up he wakes up completely after his nose has been cleaned out. Rarely he will not have a stuffy nose in the early morning and sleep until 7. His schedule gets all off waking up an hour earlier (he'll take 2 naps and then go to bed late), plus I would love to have that extra hour of sleep. I've tried everything from humidifier to vaporizer and it still never fails in the early morning hours he gets such a congested nose he wakes up not able to breathe. Any suggestions or explanations why this may be happening.
So What Happened?™
Well it actually just completely stopped. I am sure had something to do with the cold weather starting. I am sure he does have allergies though because they run in my family. I am going to be sure to talk to the pediatrician about options at this age. Thanks for all your helpful responses.

have you watched his diet? Maybe there is an afternoon snack or drink he is reacting too...allergies can have funny ways of showing themselves.....also you might try a warm shower and suction his nose before bed. Or ask your ped about a decongenstant before bed.

I agree with the other responders. It may be allergies. My son who is now 4, started having a nighttime cough when he was about 2. I took him to his Dr. and he was diagnosed with allergies. He takes a prescription medicine once a day and hasn't had problems since. I would definately take your son to his dr.

What kind of laundry and cleaning products are you using? The chamicals in the products could be causing his congestion. It may be an allergic reaction. If you would like to know about chemical free products that are less expensive than most brands you find at the store please let me know. We also have things that can be added to the water in the humidifier to help him also. I look forward to speaking with you if you are interested in the info. Have a great day and good luck!

Hello brekka,
it sounds like he has some allergies. I have allergies as well and am 13 weeks pregnant, so i am not taking any medication for my allergies. Before i became pregnant i took claratin once a day and i wouldn't wake up to a stuffy nose. Now i have one every morning. I would take him to the doctor and see what they can do for you.

Is the bed close to a window or vent? Maybe moving the bed could help. Do they make a saline nose mist for kids? I know that helps me. Good luck.

Try giving him a long lasting children's allergy medication. My youngest has the same problem. I give him a benedryl before bed and it keeps his nose clear all night. Your son may just have allergies.
