Bleeding After Delivery...

How long did you have bleeding and/or some type of discharge following delivery? Yesterday marked six weeks for me and I am still leaking some kind of discharge. From what I read, this 'can' be normal, but it seems odd to me. It isn't blood, it's more like a pale brown/yellowish thin liquid... My six week follow up is tomorrow, but I was just looking for other experiences. I do not remember anything like this with my son...

What can I do next?

Completely normal. You will bleed and then can have discharge for a while after. I had the discharge for about 8 weeks after my 3rd daughter. Now pregnant with the 4th and due any day now. Good luck and congrats on being a new momma.

Yes, I was bleeding for over 6 weeks.. Like everything else.. The doctor said.. Yep, that can be normal.. I was at market 6 weeks after I gave birth and I think I still had a discharge for a little longer.. so almost 8 weeks for me.. Then my regular period started again.

Depends on your delivery method...for me it lasted 9 weeks after my v** delivery but only a few days after my c/s. It seems they clean you out real good when they actually open you up...like wipe you all out with a sponge. :)

Oh, and a great tip I didn't find until it was too late for me...if pads make you chafe, use some of your baby's diaper rash ointment (or get your own if that weirds you out).

Yep, I had discharge with my first for many, many weeks. I think it took a good solid 2 months, and then some, to be totally done. With my second, I only h ad discharge for two weeks.

Hi L. - I was about 12 weeks for several of my pregnancies, which is a bit long (and mine included some blood). Due to the blood I was sent for an u/s at my 6 week check up to check for placental tissue left behind. That was the case for my first pregnancy (I think I was given some kind or hormone pill or shot to induce cramping and expel the tissue) but not for the others. Without blood it's probably nothing but you'll no for sure tomorrow.

Congrats on your baby! Hope you're all doing well and that your family is adjusting to the newest addition!

Forever. For me... it was because I had a period immediately the birth bleeding. One right after the other. And then 2 weeks after my first period another period, and then it went to 4 weeks. So it SEEMED like forever at least.

I know they say not to use tampons (because they won't work was the reason I was given).

I durn well started using tampons after the first week. HUGE difference in my state of mind. Keigles everyday, and tampons worked just great.

I bleed for about 6 weeks after my first child and only a few weeks after my second child. Everyone is different but I would ask you DR at your check up if he/she doesn't question you on how long you bleed for.

2 months for me. This sounds normal to me. But of course it can't hurt to check with your OB at your regular appt.

I bled for just shy of three months with my first child (although it's hard to tell exactly how long because my period began directly after), and about two and a half months after my second. When I asked my doctor about it, they said it was completely normal as long as no big clots were coming out. Yuck, huh?

I used cloth pads to prevent chafing, and loved them so much that I just use them for my normal periods now. So much nicer!

Congrats! I had no idea baby was here :)

I felt totally jipped, because I bled for about 6wks and even though I nursed, I got my period 6wks after it stopped. Blah

I had a c-section, and was still experiencing that kind of discharge after 12 weeks. It was definately not fun.
