Car Seat for Air Travel for 3.5 Yo

We're flying with our 1 yo old and 3.5 yo. The 1 yo will be on my lap. We will check his car seat. Question is: do I use a car seat for the 3.5 yo. He's pretty tall, about 42" and about 40 lbs. His car seat seems huge (Graco Nautilus) and I can't imagine him having any room. We will probably check his car seat anyway for driving around but I can't imagine using it on the plane. A friend said that she uses a booster for her 4 yo (who is smaller than my 3.5 yo) but I don't think that is approved by the FAA. I guess it's up to the...

Advice of Gift for Single Mom with No Car (Rides Bus)

A friend of mine has an almost 6 week old baby (Jasmine 8 pounds...was 5 weeks early). I've known her my whole life. She is a single mom with no car...rides the bus everywhere. Right now, she has almost nothing...bassinet blankets, and I think enough clothes that currently fit. The Jasmine's dad has a car/carseat and picks her up somethign like every other weekend. Anyway, my friend is pretty much confined to her house with the baby. Her shower is in a couple weeks. I don't have much left from when my son was tiny, and what I did have i...

Air Travel Tips W/ Infant

I need airplane travel advice…my husband will be on the plane 5 hours (not including checking in) with my 3 1/2 month baby whom I am nursing. We will be sitting in regular class and we did not purchase a ticket for our baby, since she flies for free. The airline knows that she will be on the flight. Should we ask for specific seating? Does the airline have to provide special accommodations? Where would we change her diaper -do they have a changing table in the restroom? We were thinking of just bringing our Ergo (backpack carrier)...

Nutramigen and Zantac (Acid Reflux)

Our LO is almost three months and has had issues with being fussy and spitting up formula. He has also always been very grunty. We switched him to nutramigen and that seemed to really help with his stomach issues and constipation. He recently seemed to be in discomfort from what we thought was acid reflux and would spit up clear liquid after feedings. We brought him to the pediatrician and they put him on Zantac. After two days he started doing wonderful, grunting less, sleeping for 5-6 hours at night and was in a much better mood...

8 Month Old Who Constantly Cries

I have an 8 month old little boy. He constantly cries if I don't hold him or if he isn't around me. At the babysitter's house he cries for hours at a time. He usually cries himself to sleep. When I leave the room, he cries. If he is at the babysitters and I show up he starts screaming and crying for me. He will go to his father, but after a while he will cry for me. I started carrying him around the house in a snugli just to do everyday house work, so I don't have to listen to him scream and cry. I don't know how to stop this behavior....

How Did You Survive Through the Colic?

Please note: This is NOT a request for how to calm colic or to debate whether or not colic really exists. Again...please, no suggestions to go to the chiropractor, spin the baby upside down on it's head, me to do an ancient mothering chant with the lights down low while drinking some brew all while swinging the baby counter-clockwise in 3/4 time! The fact of the matter is that our family in living in hell right now because, no matter what we try, our colicky baby will not quit screaming. He just went to the pediatrician and, after a...

Seeking Advice for 18 Week Daughter Who Still Struggles with Babysitters

My baby girl is such a "mama's girl" (early strangeritis), but it's making it hard for me to work (and I need to work to help support our family). I work from home tutoring students with learning disabilities from 3 to 8 PM Mondays through Thursdays and my babysitters come in and watch her in the home. She did great with the babysitters from 8 weeks until 12 weeks at which point she started to be 'fussy' for at least a third of the time they are here. I did some preliminary sleep training (e.g., napping only in the crib, putting her down...
