Most Useful New Infant Item You had...please share...especially Preemie Parents

So my SIL gave birth VERY early last week..at 30.5 weeks gestation. My niece weighed in at 2 lbs, 1 oz. She has done miraculously..no vent the whole time, no emergencies and while she has not gained any weight yet, she is maintaining her birth weight at this point. She looks wonderful...even a full head of hair! I thought fat and hair grew last?? She is a tiny little spectacular miracle! She will be needing some selections of preemie clothes, and other such things. But I am wondering what were the most useful things you had for Preemies...

Breastfeeding with an Illness

After 4 kids, I should know this, but have never run into this issue before. I am currently breastfeeding my 3 week old. oday, she started to get very fussy, which is unlike her. She acted like her belly really hurt her, and I assumed it was gas. Around noon, I started having really bad stomach cramps, and had an upset stomach afterward. I've thrown up a few times and feel a little better afterward, but have also had diarrhea. I don't know if it's just a bug or whatever, but should I still be nursing my daughter? I looked on the website for...

TOO Much Milk for a 1 Year Old?

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible for a 1 year old to have TOO much milk? We just recently had Lilia's 12 month appt., and her pediatrician not only said to have her off the bottle by her 15 month appointment, but to also not allow her to drink any more than 16 oz. of cow's milk a day. I had also heard this prior from a couple other mothers, since they can get other sources of calcium from other foods, so I didn't think to question her at the time. I wasn't too concerned about the 'amount' of milk b/c at the time of her...

What Do You Really Need for an Infant?

So it's been 8 years since I last had a baby to care for. I am expecting again and am at a loss for what I really need and trying to prioritize. I have looked at many registries and think they include a lot of frivolous items (wipe warmers ect) So if you could go back in time and know then what you know now, what are your must have items. When I say I have nothing I mean not one baby item at all. I know I'll need a crib, clothes, ect. I also plan on breastfeeding, so I will need a pump for when I return to work and there are so many to...

11 Month Old's Decrease in Fluid Intake and Constipation

Once again, I am tapping into the collective knowledge and experience of this awesome group! My 11 month old girl is not taking in as much fluid as she used to and is constipated. She used to take about 14 ounces of formula a day, plus what I mixed in with her and her twin brother's cereal. I also offer water in a sippy cup, which she only takes a couple sips of. Lately, her formula intake has declined to about 8 to 10 ounces a day. She is having at least 1 BM a day, but she cries/wails when she does it. It is a lot firmer than her...

Advice on Bike Trailers

Our son is nearing two and my husband and I are itching to get back on our bikes this summer, which means we are looking into getting a bike trailer. Given the expense (holy sticker shock!) I was wondering if any of you mamas had any advice. We scoped things out at Penn Cycle and, of course, they tried to sell the most expensive two-seater they had. We have (and plant to have) only one child, so is a two-seater worth it for the extra room as one child gets bigger? Do any of you have and love (or hate) a particular brand? We were also...

Secondary Infertilty - Advice and Support Needed!

Wondering if anyone can share their story or offer advice and support about secondary infertilty issues. We've been trying for another child and recently went through some initial examinations with a Reproductive Endocrinologist (fertiltiy specialist). Apparently everything is NORMAL! (and our first baby was conceived lickety-split!), but since its been a year, we still fall into the "unexplained infertility" category. The doctor's first suggestion is for us to try a combination of chlomid treatments, HCG injections, and Intrauterine...

Viral Infection- Rash

Ds2 6 months old had what looked like hives or a slew of bites on his arms and legs. We had his 6 month well visit and innoculations yesterday. Fearing an adverse reaction, I took him to the ped who gave a diagnosis of a viral infection presenting as a rash. I've never seen this before. She suggested cortisone cream and Tylenol, and to keep an eye on it. He doesn't seem too bothered, but it looks awful. Any thoughts or suggestions? Any ideas on how to bring down the welts? He isn't otherwise sick. Regards F. B.

Difficulty with Potty Training

My son is turning "3" in four days. However, he has no interest in potty training what-so-ever. It doesn't bother my husband and I (other than the high cost of pull ups); however, it bothers his day care center. He goes to day care Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and is with my mother on Thursday and Friday. He is supposed to moving into the "3's room", however since he is not potty trained, he can't go. We've tried all the tricks to no avail. Did anyone have any luck doing something off the wall?? I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

What's a Item You Used for Your Baby That You Couldn't Live Without??

HI MAMMA'S! I'm a soon-to-be 1st time gramma and wanted to make sure my daughter had some great things to help her transition into parenthood with the new baby. Is there something you received as a gift or bought yourself that really helped your sanity those first few months?? This isn't affecting my husband at all, he sleeps in a seperate bed because of our schedule differences. Help with a Late Walker

Hi all. My DD is 17.5 mos and will only walk with a walker, holding onto furniture or by holding someone's hands. She is in Early Intervention as she had a hypermobility problems in her ankles and hips preventing he from walking. That has since been fixed, and she was doing great starting to walk on her own, and now she almost seems as if she is regressing. It is driving me crazy! 3 Yr Old with 20/200 Vision

I took my DD in for her 3 year check up yesterday and was shocked to learn that she has 20/200 vision, in both eyes. I have a sister who is legally blind (20/2000), so I have watched my DD pretty closely for any signs that she struggled with her vision. She often points out things that she sees as we are driving, such as letters on signs, the moon & stars at night, and the color on traffic lights. Because she does this, doesn't bump into things around her, holds books at a normal distance and has never said anything about not being able...
