I also had some bleeding in the early stages of my pregnancy. It was never a lot and it was never bright red (more brownish). I called the doctor because, like you, my first appointment was a little ways off and they basically told me this: a little bleeding can be normal unless it gets heavy and you also have cramping with it. They told me that if there was something wrong with the baby and that if I was indeed experiencing a miscarriage, there was really nothing anybody could do about it. They got me in for an ultrasound at about 8 weeks and everything was fine. The bleeding continued for another week or so beyond that then tapered off. Fron then on out, my pregnancy proceeded normally and I now have a healthy 2 year old son. I think that if something is really wrong you'll know it. Try not to worry.

I would call the doctors office and tell them whats going on and have them decide if you need to come in before the 12th.

Hey! I'm a nurse and used to work Labor/Delivery/Postpartum and still work Well Baby Nursery.
1. Are you having any cramping?
2. Is it heavy bleeding?
3. Are you soaking a pad in less than one hour?
4. Do you see any clots? (sorry, I know this sounds gross, but is important)
5. If the answer to any/all of these is NO...then it is probably what we call "Implantation Bleeding" which means the fertilized egg is embedding itself into your uterine wall and you may spot some...as long as nothing else (mentioned above) is going on...it should be fine.

If it makes you more comfortable, however, since you aren't going to see the doctor for some time, you can call the office and leave a message for your doctor's NURSE to call you back...good luck...motherhood is AWESOME! We are trying to get pregnant with his 4th/my 3rd child right now...we have 3 boys and are trying one more time for a girl...
I have been nauseated since last Mon...but too early to tell yet if I am pregnant...my cycle shouldn't start until May 11th!

I would call my doctor and tell them that you want to be seen now, today. Ask for a progesterone test as well as a HCG test. If your progesterone is low then it can cause a miscarriage, this is how I lost my first baby. They can give you Prometrium supplements to augment your natural progesterone and give the pregnancy time to really take hold. I used the Prometrium as a vaginal suppository twice a day for the first 14 weeks and my little girl is now 4 years old.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!! I haven't read everyone's responses, but here is my experience with bleeding: I am currently pregnant (19 weeks) with my 2nd child. My first pregnancy was completely text book with no problems whatsoever. With this pregnancy I started spotting when I was around 6-7 weeks. My doctor said that if I was going to miscarry that there really was nothing I could do to stop it. He told me to relax and take it easy. Easier said than done, I know. I went in for my first appointment and everything seemed fine and I had gone a few days with no spotting at all so they just thought it was a fluke I guess. Well, I spotted some more (bright red) and when they did my second vaginal ultrasound they noticed I have placenta previa. I have been on bed rest for the most part of my pregnancy, but everyone assures me, even the doctor, that most of the time placenta previa fixes itself. I go to the Dr. this Thursday and haven't had any bleeding for the last 4 weeks, so I'm hoping the placenta moved. This may not be what you have, but when I read up on placenta previa after they first diagnosed it, most of the websites said it usually doesn't get diagnosed till the 2nd or 3rd trimester. Well, I am proof that this can be diagnosed and start giving you difficulties in the 1st trimester. So my advice to you is to take it easy, no heavy lifting, and keep your feet up as much as possible till your Dr.'s appointment. Most likely they'll do an ultrasound and let you know what's going on and how far along you are. If you are extremely concerned and would like to get into the Dr. sooner, call them. It's better to have peace of mind than to be completely stressed out about it. I was so concerned at one point that I went to the ER, (completely unnecessary) but it gave me some peace of mind. I have 5 children and with my 1st I had periods the whole time, it sucked. BUT each time I had bleeding they would say 'ask yourself these questions. Do you have diarhhea? Do you have cramps/back pain, are you running a fever?" Since I never was, they told me no cause for concern. She was a normal, healthy 7lb15oz baby and I never did that with any of the others. No one knows why I did that, it's one reason I didn't even know I was pregnant till I was about 4 months along, talk about shocked.

Peace of mind is priceless as well and if you can't wait till the 12th, there is no harm in calling & speaking to a nurse to see if you should go in.

I'm not sure what's really considered normal or not. I will tell you that every woman's body is different, especially as it relates to pregancy. I hope you find comfort in knowing that I spotted for a few days after taking several pregnancy test confirming I was pregant and I have a beautiful, healthy, vibrant 3 yr. old little girl. I especially wouldn't be concerned if the color that you see is light (more pink than dark red). I would try to remain calm until your appointment and bring up your concerns with them. However, at all cost attempt to reduce stress and try not to become overwhelmed, because that isn't good for you or your new blessing.

Call your OB's office to let them know you are bleeding. I had bleeding with one pregnancy and miscarried. Another pregnancy I had spotting but then delivered a healthy baby girl. The doctor's office will get you in there ASAP if you are having bleeding.

Call your OB and tell them you are bleeding. They will get you in before the 12th. If they don't get you in find a new OB.

It is most likely nothing to be concerned about. Many women spot during a pregnancy with no problem. However, I would not hesitate to call the OB office to ask a nurse. They should be very understanding. It is better to hassle them then to stress over it. The stress is not healthy, you know.

I bled some with my second and third babies. I was told (but please call and check with your doctor!) that as long as the blood was a brownish color and not the normal "red" color that it was ok. However, I have a friend that says she never knew she was pregnant until 2 days before her daughter was born. She said she had a regular period every month and only gained 10 pounds, so she thought she was eatting too much because of the breakup with her boyfriend. She apparently carried her daughter in her "back", so she said a couple of times she felt butterflies, but not the normal movement. Please call your doctor though and check, they may want you to come in sooner just to check.

It sounds normal, but if it gets worse than spotting or you start cramping, call the nurse. They may order a 'quant' test, which measures the levels of your pregnancy hormones. It is a blood test you have to do twice, two days apart. If the levels double, you are progressing fine. if they don't, then that is a sign the pregnancy was not viable.

You should call the doctors office and tel them that you need to be seen today by one of the OB/GYNs. You should insist upon being seen. It may be nothing but you need to be sure.

I would try to go and get it checked.
If you must go to the emergency at the hospital.
To make sure it is ok.
I just don't understand these baby doctors.
But if you can go to your doctor do it and instist that they check it to see if everythings all right

Go ahead and call your OBGYN, they should have a nurse on staff that can talk to you about your bleeding and determine if you need to come in earlier. Good luck!

I had some light spotting with my second pregnancy, but none with my first. I would definately call the doctor's office and ask to speak with a nurse - she should be able to calm your fears and know if they need to see you sooner.

In my situation my daughter was just fine, but every case is different. I would also ask the nurse about prenatal vitamins if you are not already taking them.

I had that with my first and only child it turned out ok. I did however have the same problem with my second pregnancy and miscarried. However there is not much you can do about that so just relax and make a Dr. appointment or call the nurse at the Dr. office.

Go to your doctor, even a primary care physician. You need to be seen. This is not normal (to my knowledge).

i think implantation bleeding is normal but I'm not sure how long that should last. I know I spotted for 2-3 days. It couldn't hurt to call the dr just to make sure

It's not entirely normal, but not entirely uncommon either. There probably isn't too much that can be done at this stage of pregnancy, if you are threatening a miscarriage, so I'm not sure that going to your doctor would help. Most of the time, they treat a single miscarriage as "these things just happen," and don't get worried unless you have multiple miscarriages (my sister's insurance wouldn't let her refer out to a high-risk specialist until after she had had three miscarriages!). My other sister bled some in the early stages of her first pregnancy, and she was understandably worried, but it turned out to be nothing (that baby just turned 10 years old).

If you call the doctor's office and explain what's going on, they will probably be able to get you in quicker; and I'm a little surprised they didn't schedule you earlier, since you have no idea how far along you are. Usually, they'll want to do an early ultrasound to verify dates, if the mom is unsure. The earlier in pregnancy they measure, the more accurate it is (within +/- 5 days in the first trimester; by the last trimester, it's only accurate to within two *weeks* before or after).

That said, I'm not a big fan of ultrasounds, especially the early ones. I know it would set your mind at ease and verify dates; but I don't like how that ultrasounds haven't really been studied to make sure there aren't any bad side effects from them. And most of the studies that have been done were done decades ago, and women are undergoing a lot more ultrasounds per pregnancy, starting earlier, using stronger equipment, etc., so there are a lot of variables that haven't even been taken into consideration.

If you call the doctor and notify them that you are bleeding they will give you an earlier appointment. Let them know that this is your first pregnancy too.

well i know you can have implantation bleeding but that normally doesnt last that long... i would call your doctor and ask. chances are they wont see you b/c most docs wont see you until your 2nd month b/c of risk of miscarriage. good luck
