My Baby Cries All the Way home..anyone Else?

Every single time I take my baby ( 6 months) to grandma's house which is an hour away from where I live, he whales the entire ride back home. At first, I thought his stomach was upset or something else may have been bothering him, we even thought he may be afraid of the dark or night time driving or something and turning the interior light on didn't help...but it has happened several times already. Has this happened to anyone else? If it has what can I do to make it a better ride for everyone? I dread going to my parents' now :<

So What Happened?

So, we have had our now 9 month old baby in the convertible car seat that has much more cushion for comfort. Unfortunately, he still cries on the way home but I figured out that if he doesn't get his nap before we head home, that's when he cries. Other times, he may only cry when we are already close to getting home. he has no problem on the way to grandma's( 1 hour away) of course it is daylight outside! Well, at least he's getting better!
Thanks for all the advice..By the way, we're getting a dvd player for him for x-mas!!!
Wish us luck!!!!

Hi L.,
I don't know if you've moved him from a carrier car seat to a convertible one, but my youngest HATED his carrier car seat and at about 3 months, we moved him to the convertible car seat and he was much happier.

I don't know what it was about that seat, but he SCREAMED every time he was in it.

I hope you find a solution...I know how it is to dread the car rides!!

Try playing calming or soothing music for him. I was also thinking that maybe you could schedule the long car ride during his nap time. Maybe if he is really tired, he will sleep instead of scream.

Travel DVD player always helps us. At that age try the Baby Eienstein videos.

I assume he's in a rear-facing carseat. You can try one of those mirrors that attaches to the seat. I had one that had lights and music that I could play with a remote from the front seat. I also always made sure my girls had their comfort items (pacifier, blankie) for car rides. Good luck- driving with a crying child is never fun!

Try playing music with children actually singing the songs.
I got this tip from a doctor. I have told told it to a few other moms and they agree that it really works(most of the time).
