That's so funny. I'm riding the bike right now.

Time flies by with the laptop on the side and "Shaun the Sheep" in the dvd player for my four year old. Win-win.

I've lost almost 50 pounds riding daily since last summer. Bad knees keep me from my usual four mile walk/runs.

Try changing up the tension and the speed; two minutes, regular pace, two minutes, as fast as you can. Keep changing it up. And when you're done, spend at least 10 minutes stretching. This is what I've been trying to do. I've had to keep it up because I had knee replacement surgery last year. It's the only thing that's been keeping my new joint loose. So I'm on the bike just about every day.

ANY kind of excersize paired with a lowering of calories will do. It's just really, really hard. =) I've been thinking of taking it up a notch to lose some weight rather than just keep my knee in check. So, I'll ride if you ride!

I bought a cheap bike with a magnetic way to change tension (not a big fan like old bikes). I bought it at Sports Authority, it was only about $200, was simple to put together, and it comes with 10 half hour programs which make it seem like you are riding up larger and larger hills with flats in between. There is also a manual setting so you can change the resistance from 0-10. I usually do one half hour program and then another 10-15 minutes on manual. My knees are ok for long walks but outside Boston in our rural town it is either too snowy, or when warm it is often too buggy. So I can still get my exercise this way without letting the weather dictate my schedule. Go for it! Even if you do not loose lots of weight your heart and muscles will be healthier.

Of course you can, lol. Exercise and Watch your diet. You don't have to stop eating junk food but watch your calories. When you gain weight it's because your eating more calories than your burning (not talking about genetics and diseases of course). You can lose weight on a stationary bike just like you can on a real bike.

I recently had to drop all excersise due to knee injury and lost the last 6 lbs of pregnancy weight just by counting calories. With some, a lot, or no exercise, you can succeed or fail at weight loss. Thats because it mostly comes down to calories. If thats what you are limmited to, yes, you can make it work. Its not the highest burning exercise out there, but even if you did cardio kick boxing, if you still eat to the point of not creating a calorie deficit, then you still won't loose. Focus on calories.

This will be your lucky day - you get to tell your husband he is dead wrong! :)

In fact, riding a stationary bike is excellent for those who have problems with weight-bearing activities (i.e. your feet). All you need to do is switch up the speed/level at which you pedal to work in intervals and it can be a great fat burning/cardio activity.

Google spinning. Here is one link that I found: http://bicycling.about.com/od/trainingandfitness/gr/spinn...

You may be able to find spinning aps for your iPod/iPhone or other helpful links in order to maybe facilitate some sort of spinning routine on your own. The key is to always keep moving and work in intervals (either pedal faster for like 60 seconds, put more resistance on for 60 seconds, etc. and do this for a total of 30-60 minutes). You don't have to do a spinning workout if you don't want to; I just suggested that if you want some sort of formal program to follow. I took a spin class once (on a regular spin bike, yes there is a difference) and it hurt my butt and my um, "bike seat/lady area" really badly!

Yes, there are other activities out there that will help you drop the weight faster but that doesn't mean that using a stationary bike would not be effective.

Ride the bike, do the work, burn the calories, melt the fat, put on a hot little outfit, and then tell him "I told you so - haha!"

Best wishes - you totally can do this!

Of course you can! If you eat in a healthy way but cut some calories and increase any exercise you will lose weight. You will be burning calories.

You could also swim since you have bad feet.

Really good shoes may make your bad feet pretty good..... you might try going to "Run On" and explaining your problem. They might be able to fit you in a really comfortable shoe.

Of course you can, years ago when I was still a kid my mom got into shape for a trip simply by riding a no gimmicks stationary bike and watching what she ate. I used to use mine a lot, I could watch tv or even read a book, listen to music...I dislike the tread mill but the exercise bike never seemed to bug me
= ) Any exercise is better than No exercise!

biking is low impact so it would be a great option. Weight loss is from dieting and working out will work on the body fat........so work on life changes too. I just found the Belly Fat Cure book very helpful in not just telling me what I should take in as far as sugar and carbs (which are my weakness) but he also has pictures of pantry items to replace current ones with...I always wanted to see in a nutritionist's pantry and this is the closest thing I have seen to being able to raid someones pantry. It has opened my eyes and I have now gotten to where I don't crave sugar and carbs nearly as bad as I did!!!

Have fun riding.......
