LeapFrog Leap Pad or Vtech InnoTab?

After some research and thought, hubby and I decided to skip the Leappad and just buy our 5 year old an actual tablet. The Leapfrog pad's games are ridiculously expensive, and you can't do things like stream Netflix on it. And it isn't cheap! It comes with nothing on it, so by the time you load it with some games and stuff, you are almost at the price of an actual tablet.

I didn't look into the Vtech. I have a friend that has one, and her kids love it, though.

I don't have experience with either, but I have bought SEVERAL VTech items in the past. They have all failed one way or another. AC adaptors stop working and they suck batteries like you wouldn't believe. After replacing games and adaptors, I came to the conclusion it's the connection with the game, not the adaptors. I bought my other son a Leapster and it's been working for years with no problems what-so-ever. So, hands down, I'd buy a Leap Frog item B4 VTech. After reading other comments, though, you might consider a tablet, it's more versitile.

My four year old daughter got the Inno Tab last Christmas and is still playing on it regularly. I like it because the games are educational and yet she has lots of fun. The games are not cheap but they seem to be ones she will play over and over. We haven't added any apps to it yet but so far she is entertained with what was already on it and the other games we bought.

My 6 yo got the Leap Pad from Grandma for Christmas and loves it. I like it because it's educational games and books. I don't like it because the better books - the more interactive ones - can cost $20. The games are $25. Of course, she always wants those things. I have her save her allowance for them, or ask for them as gifts - I don't just impulse buy those things.

My son (who is 3) liked playing his big sisters so much Grandma is going to buy him one for his birthday. They will share the games though.

Hi, I just did a lot of research on these two. We ended up going for the Leappad2. Notice I mentioned 2 not just leappad. They just came out with another version that is really cool having a camer and video camera on both sides of the tablet. It comes loaded with some games and you can also download some for free from their website. You can track their progress on the leapfrog website which will tell you what games they are playing and how they are doing learning new things which I thought was pretty cool. It is 99 bucks but all the reviews I read were really positive and my almost 5yo dtr is really into take photos of things right now. I think it will hold up to some accidental drops etc which I don't think a nook or other tablet will. I would do some research on your own, but we went with te leap pad 2 hands down!

I was recently trying to decide which one of these to get for my daughter, but on a visit to our local Barnes & Noble, she began playing with the NOOK tablets/eReaders that were set up on a table in the children's section. The apps she was playing with and the interactive eBooks she was reading on the tablet were engaging and educational. B&N recently cut their prices, so between the price cut and my membership discount, I was able to get a NOOK tablet for my daughter (and myself) for about $50 more than the LeapPad or the InnoTab would have cost. Ever since, we have both been loving our NOOK!
