High Chair Stains

I gave my daughter spaghetti-o's in her high chair and it left orange stains all over the tray and vinyl seat. I've tried everything (magic erasers, letting 409 sit for 5 minutes) but it's still orange. I tried cleaning it right after I took her out so it's not like it sat for a while. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.. I'm a neat freak and I can't stand it!

I try now to use primarily earth-friendly products, but I have to say that soft scrub does a great job with stains such as the ones you are talking about. Good luck!

Peace,

I think all of these cleaning suggestions are excellent. I just want to say that my vinyl cover was also stained orange and I couldn't get it clean.. until it faded on its own. You'd never even know the stains were there. I guess with washing and daily use, after a month it faded completely. Same thing with the tray- sometimes after spaghettios it appears stained orange but a day or two later (after washing it after meals) it has completely faded. FYI- I use Clorox Anywhere spray on these surfaces.

Hi D.,

I have this problem too especially with tomato sauce on the plastic tray. I sprinkle a good amount of baking soda on it and then put some lemon juice on it too. I let it sit while I do the other dishes and then wash it. It works really well.

I would apply soft scrub and let it sit for a while. That removes stains from my old countertop.

Try a laundry bleach pen or Soft Scrub with bleach. Let it sit on the stain for a few minutes, then clean. It has worked for me. Good luck from one fellow neat freak!

I second the baking soda advice, and if that doesn't work try a plain rubber eraser - I haven't tried it with spaghetti-os, but I've been surprised at what an eraser has gotten out in the past.

I would say to use Mr Clean eraser but I guess that didn't work for you. My daughter had it all over her scalp, she is 2 and just started getting hair. We could not get it off either...she had an orange head for a couple days. What the heck do they put in that stuff???? How can it be good for them? LOL

Hi D.,
Try wetting the area & then sprinkle baking soda on it & let it sit for a few minutes. It seems to absorb ALL stains~even on counters & floors too! Good luck

I just wanted to comment that Magic Eraser is a scary products to use around children. I have a friend whose 2 year old just wound up in ER for 57 hours as a result of using it to clean permanent marker off her wall!

I would highly recommend a non-toxic product called Sol-u-mel. It's an all-purpose cleaner that should easily remove those stains from your daughter's high chair, along with many other great uses! I use it almost on a daily basis to clean around my home & have numerous stories of things I've cleaned with great results!

I don't sell this product, but will happily show you how you can get this fantastic product. Please feel free to contact me! Good luck!

You know how tupperware stains forever if you put tomato sauce (especially low quality acidic tomato sauce like in spagetti-os) in it? Im gonna guess thats what you're looking at here.
Two things I would say though... Maybe give your daughter something a little healthier and less easily staining than Spagetti-Os, and give up the neat-freakness if you have children. Its an exercise in futility.

Hi D., I can certainly identify with this issue, as it would bug the dickens out of me also. I have never worked on a stain on plastic of any kind; however, I will share this with you -- I have had awesome results getting stains out of all types of clothing, even old dried-in stains. Where do you live? I am in Georgetown. If you are somewhere near me, I would be happy to drop off a sample of Scour Off, which is a non-toxic cleaning product made by Shaklee. It is a paste that I have used successfully to take green iron stains off tubs and tile; I clean oven racks and barbeque grills with it; it is great to take stubborn stains out of toilets; one of my customers uses it on his whitewall tires. You rub a little on - then wait about 10-15 minutes and go back and scrub a little and wipe off. Let me know if you would like a sample to try. Yes, I am a Shaklee Distributor and am trying to help you with your issue. I will also give you a 2nd option to try which is a mixture of our non-toxic laundry detergent and our non-toxic laundry booster - perhaps that will work if Scour Off does not. Either way, you will not be harming yourself, your children, or the environment as Shaklee products do not contain any toxic chemicals. Please contact me at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com for me to drop off a sample for you if you wish. E. Taft

Try a mild bleach/water solution with a scrub brush.
Then rinse it well and use a cleaner or soap.
Baking soda ( with vinegar) is always a good last resort too.
