So What Happened?

Thank you for the suggestions... keep them coming! My kids are 4 and 4 mos.... I am using the gym and have joined a group of ladies for "biggest loser" in addition to interval training with a few of the ladies. Some days I am not motivated but I am determined to wear a bikini this June!

Hi F.,
Let me just say, it is tough when you have kids!!!! A friend of mine and I made a pact a couple of weeks ago that we will try to help each other stay motivated (she also has young kids and is busy like me!). We basically just have the expectation that we are both exercising 3 times per week and we email each other and check in to help. We are doing the couch to 5K program (go to coolrunning.com if you are interested) which basically slowly gets you started and helps condition your body to run more each week. I actually walk and run around my house with my kids!! My son loves it and chases me around. My 18 month old just watches or does her own thing. Eventually when I am just running without doing intervals of walking and jogging, I plan to get up before my husband goes to work and jog outside. Best of luck to you - I know how hard it is to get motivated and fit it into a schedule with kids!!!!

me & my husband actually just started going for walks in the morning. It's hard to wake up a little extra early, but living in south florida it's the only time to do it before its way too hot. We get up, do a diaper change, feed the lil one, and we walk for about 30 - 45 minutes, or until LO gets too crabby. She's usually pretty good about it though. She actually really enjoys the walks. Just give her a cold sippy cup with yogurt juice and she's good to go!

I do Jazzercise and they have many times to go as well as daycare. It is a well rounded work out as it has aerobics, pilates, weights, kickboxing, etc. It is an hour workout and you are done! If you can't get out they also have DVD's you can buy on line at Jazzercise.com.

Hi Mama
Myself and hubby take our son swimming. We take turns watching him while we do lengths of the pool.

I work out on a treadmill, at home, while the kids are napping.

I finally motivated myself to get in shape again! I want to start the summer in shape...not end it in shape :-) I just started P90X which will be over at the end of May. I was originally doing the workouts an hour before the kids' bedtime, but since my two year old gets fussy on and off during the workouts, I'm going to workout during his naptime. THe kids do make it VERY hard. However, I have read so many awesome reviews of P90X that I'm trying to overcome the difficulty of working out with kids at home. I'm doing the Lean version, not the classic version and it hasn't been too hard. I really love it and look forward to working out each day.

You didn't say how old your kids are and that makes a difference. Mine are 4 and 6 and I take them outside for at least an hour whenever the weather is nice enough. While they run around the yard or ride their bikes in our driveway (which is 300 feet long), I walk laps in the driveway (9 times out to the road and back is one mile). When they were younger, I would put them in the stroller and push them or, a bit later, pull them both in the wagon. Your driveway may not be the best place, but perhaps you live in a quiet neighborhood or have a park nearby where you could walk.

I set a goal to train for a half marathon-and I am NOT a runner, but needed a goal to get myself motivated. I also have 2 young children. I wake up two times a week at 6 am and go running before my husband leaves for work. I do my longer runs on Saturday and Sunday. I also do cardio workouts/DVD's a few times a week while the kids take their afternoon naps. It is hard but it is the only way I can get a workout in. Good luck and stay motivated.
