My niece is having a 80's birhtday party. Can anyone tell me what I should wear to this party? Everyone must dress in the 80's.

What can I do next?

I just had to go back and see what Becky was laughing about.....LOLOLOL Yes! Made my day too!

Re: 80's attire: Gotta have the big hair, leg warmers, shoulder pads and brighter colors. Just look up Madonna, Joan Jett, Cindy Lauper and you'll get a visual. A little too much eye shadow (blue or lavendar preferably), is a nice touch (it's scary that these styles are coming back). My daughter went as Jane Fonda for halloween and bought a pink sweat shirt from K-mart. We cut the collar off and wide and cut the ribbing off the bottom of the sweater. She wore it over neon blue spandex leggings w/ leg warmers. You can have a lot of fun with this and look cute at the same time! Good luck!

In addition to the wonderful ideas already listed, another way is to go preppy. Remember James Spader or Andrew McCarthy? Plaid pants with Izod shirts (layer a couple of them) and a sweater tied around your shoulders. Don't forget the penny loafers. The Miami Vice look is also good for guys.

Molly Ringwald movies are also a good reference.
Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Pretty in Pink

Sounds like a lot of fun. Have a great time.

Hi S.,

We had grandma's 80th birthday party this past summer.
We held it at her church. The attire was pretty much casual dress. Some wore their church clothes. Some wore dresses and some wore nice slack outfits etc. The men wore their suits or a nice vest with no suit coat. No jeans. I guess I would say wear something a little more fancier than you would normally wear when going to a family style restuarant.
You'll be fine. Just have fun and don't forget to tape or write down some of the family tree info and stories that may be told. Have fun and enjoy all the visitors. Hugs.

Linda

How fun!!! I LOVE the 80s! The Madonna look is an easy way to go. Leggings, anything mesh, tons of rubber bracelets piled onto your wrists, a big cross necklace, and a messy hairdo with a big bow headband. Perfect! Oh - and don't forget the make-up : )

Other than that, you can't go wrong with anything that has huge shoulder pads. Flourescent was also very in. And big giant belts!

Have tons of fun! And enjoy the music! In my opinion, the best part of the 80s....

Don't forget the neon. Neon t-shirt (under the stone-washed jean jacket) and neon bobby socks with your white Keds.

She was really big in the 80's.

Look up the movie Desperately seeking Susan with Madonna. She was very in vogue in the 80's.

skin tight capri pants and Leggings, shorter skirts, form-fitting tops, Really Big wild hair, flats or army style boots (heels were not in). Streaks of different colors in your hair (blues, greens, red, orange, etc.)
Faded (acid) blue jean came into fashion. Wide belts came into play. Jewelry: lots of bracelets and dangle earrings and long necklaces. Mark-up: lots of shadow, blush and bright colored lip stick. The natural look was definitely not in.

Just have Fun...

I graduated from highschool in 1980 so here is what I remember about clothing from right after that. tight jeans (jordache, chic, calvin klein, gloria vanderbilt etc) tank tops w/big loose v-necked sweaters hanging off of one shoulder. big chunky jewelry and really big hair. feathered back lol. shoes were LA gear or reibocks or nike's. oh michal jackson was the big thing and punk rock also. so really exaggerated make up bright lips and bright cheeks, dark eye stuff the more eyeliner the better. hope that helps

Think Madanna, big teased perm hair, lots of big necklaces and bracelets. Leggings (those are back in style) with long big sweaters with shoulder pads. Or go for the Flashdance look, leggings with a cut up sweatshirt. Have you seen the Wedding Singer? Very 80's styles. The blond friend had the Madonna look going. Have fun!

As a product of the 80's, I would recommend any kind of leggings with a big shirt, big belt and high heels. A short skirt, lace/print tights, high heels with an oversized shirt, belted. BIG, loud, tacky jewelry is a must! The more obnoxious the color and/or print, the better. Go to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or thrift store. These are all great places to get blast-from-the-past items.

WEll I would google 80's clothing and see what you get first...so you can see what we that lived that period are telling you.

Jeans that you wrap around your ankle and tuck
Anything that looks like Michael Jackson (gloves on one hand, zipper shirts, parachute pants)
Or try to look up "Like a Virgen" video by Madonna
(lace gloves without fingers, big hair with bigger bangs, leg warmers, button up shirts with the collar turned up, jeans with holes in the knees and butt)

That shouldn't be hard. The 80's are back in style. All of those long sweaters with the big belts, and the skinny pants or leggings underneath with a pair of pumps. All you need then is to rat your hair (aqua net), throw on some blue eyeshadow and you're all set.

I was your typical 80's girl in the 80's and I had fun on Halloween dressing the part too. I went to the Salvation Army and bought a Hot Pink Sweatshirt and cut the neck out like in "Flashdance". I bought an acid washed Jean Skirt there too all very cheap. Wore Big Earrings and Black rubber bracelets found at Claires Boutique. I had some footless tights on too - those you can find anywhere - they were big then too. You must Buy a can of Aqua Net Hairspray too - that was huge in the 80's - I had that sticking out of my purse. Lots of Hotpink Lipstick. Tease your hair really big and wear a lace bow tied at the top as a headband - Fabric Store has Lace by the yard. It's kind of an 80's Madonna look I went with.

I think the 80's fashions are coming back (which is a scary thought) because the last time I was in Forever 21, they had a ton of stuff that looked 80's.

Bright colors, leg warmers, jelly bracelets, big hair, big chunky plastic bracelets, big bright earrings, leggings with large shirts.
