Question About Preparing Similac in Batches

I prepare batches of Similac powdered formula and keep it in the fridge for when I need it. The "recipe" Similac gave me when I called their 800 number was 23oz of water to 1 level cup of powder. The yield is 26 oz of formula. This is fine now while my baby does not go through 26 oz in a day yet, but soon she will. I want to make a larger amount and not fuss with individual scoops of formula if possible, but as you bakers and cooks know, simply preparing another half a recipe (11 1/2 oz water to 1/2 cup powder) may not work right. ...

Breastfeeding a Preemie

My son was born 9 weeks early and was tube and bottle fed in the NICU. I was able to nurse him at the hospital and the LC said that he was a natural (yay!) and had no trouble latching on. We brought him home after 5+ weeks in the hospital and are trying to breastfeed him at home. He still latches on fine but suckles for a few minutes then falls asleep. I wake him up, he latches on, suckles for a minute and falls asleep. And repeat... This continues for about two hours and we have been at this for almost three weeks - it's more frustrating...

Similac Advance - Formula Question

Since our baby was born, she was breastfed, but needed a supplement. We continued using the formula we started on in the hospital - Similac Advance. She has been doing great with the 'ready to go' kind, getting less than 8 oz. a day supplement. I recently bought the Similac Advance 'Early Shield' variety. She has had non stop gas - starting 5 min. after she ate! I hate to think her little tummy is hurting because of it! Obviously I am not giving it to her again...but I am wondering if other moms out there had a similar experience? ...

Baby Crying While Bottle Feeding at 4 Months, Starting Formula

We are transitioning from breastmilk to formula for my 4 month old baby. As we are increasing the amount of formula per feeding (every feeding is mixed with some breastmilk), we are noticing that he seems to turn his head to the side and cry for the first few minutes. After this time he will sometimes get the hang of it and finish the bottle, but sometimes he will end up only taking a few ounces. It does not seem to be gas related. I am wondering what may be causing this--pain, distraction, etc. It seems to be about the same for...

Enfamil or Similac

Hi ladies, I am wondering if any of you have had the experience of using both of these brands and can help me make a decision on which to go with. I used Similac Isolmil Advanced with my daughter but just read a study that the Enfamil ProSobee Lipil has higher levels of nutrients in it than the Similac. I am so used to the name brand Similac that using something different worries me without some input. If any of you could share your experiences with me I would appreciate it! Also, just in case, I am not at all against breast feeding and...

Question About Similac Alimentum

I have a two month old who has had some feeding issues. His doctor put him on Alimentum two days ago because of his spitting up. He had been gaining weight well. My doc put him on this to help ease his tummy. Since being put this formula he had wanted to eat more often and more formula at a time. Before being switched he ate every 6 oz every 3-4 hours. Now he wants 7 oz every 2-3 hours. He had been sleeping through the night since he was 6 weeks old so he only goes through 5-6 bottles a day. FYI he is a big boy. At birth he was 10 lbs 1...

Similac Vs. Enfamil

Hello Mommies! I have a newborn, only 13 days old. We've figured out she has a milk intolerance so we started giving her Similac Alimentum formula about a week ago. Since, she has gotten better but now, about 20 mins after she eats, she goes through a rough period where she obviously uncomfortable, inconsolable crying, squirming, grunting, etc. I have heard that Similac products are harder on their systems than Enfamil products. I want to switch her to Enfamil Nutramagen but I'm waiting for the doctor to call me back. By the way, the...

Similac Go and Grow

Has anyone tried this newer formula? I'm currently using Similac Advance for my 10 month old twins, but am trying to find out more about how to use this formula for older babies. They currently consume 20-24 ounces each day. Is the Go & Grow a replacement for the Advance or is it supposed to help you transition to milk for when they are a year? The website does not give too much information. Has anyone tried it?
