What to Wear to Bed While Potty Training

I don't like pull ups because my daughter thinks she got her diaper back, but I need something to put her to bed in at night other than her training pants because she is soaked in the morning. Any suggestions? She isn't ready for night training, but she still asks for a diaper during the day to poop. If I put her in a diaper at night, she just holds it until bed time. Does anyone use any cloth alternatives at night? She doesn't like to go #2 in cloth.

I came up with this idea almost 16 years ago because I agree, pull ups are like diapers, they cannot feel the wet. Put regular undies on her with a pull up (or diaper, they're cheaper) over them. She will feel the wet and her bed will remain dry. This worked with all three of my kids and every daycare child (that has tried it) I've watched for 16 years. Good luck!! J.

Sounds like maybe she's not quite ready to go without her pull ups at night. There's usually a long transition period between using the potty during the day and being able to go the night without any accidents. It will be too frustrating for both of you to rush the night training right now.

use pullups and explain to her they are only for when you are totally asleep. After about 3 months of her using them as a potty you start telling her that isn't allowed at all anymore and you will punish her for doing so, they are only for when she pees in her sleep and you don't poop in your sleep so that isn't allowed anymore. This method really does work.

Why isn't she ready for night training?
1. Stop liquid intake at least one hour before bed time. And no sippy cups/bottle while sleeping.
2. Take her to the potty before bed and sit until she does something.
3. training pants with a waterproof matress pad for accidents. Have 2-3 pads in case you don't get to laundry that day.
4. You may have to get up and take her to the pot during the night or early in the morning.
5. Let her know that poop goes in the potty/toilet because that is what big girls do.

It will take a few days but she will get it. This worked with my 2 boys and my daughter and now I am working on my granddaughter. She just turned 2 in April and she is getting the hang of it. It is different when it is the grandchild that you don't have everyday.

I think that most people use regular diapers at night until their child is ready to go through the night dry. There is no advantage to pull ups at night unless you can put the potty by the bed and she will actually get out of bed and go on the potty. and they are a good deal more expensive. If she is still going during the night, then training pants will leave her wet and so either cloth or regular diapers are really the only alternative.

It takes a lot longer to night train a child. When they're sleeping so hard, their bodies don't know to wake up and use the potty. My 5 year old still wears pull-ups to bed and they're always soaked! My 7 year old stopped wearing pull-up just before kindergarten, but we had to start waking him up before we went to bed and it ended up causing sleeping issues, so this time I don't care how long it takes! I wouldn't rush it. It will happen eventually.
Good luck.

We just potty trained out 2.5 yr old daugther and we put her in actual diapers at nap/nighttime. We explained to her that when she's sleeping she's not responsible for her body yet and she understands that. We told her that when she wakes up with dry diapers for a while, we'll try sleeping in her underpants; she liked that. She feels successful during the day in her underpants and also when she's sleeping because her bed isn't wet. Just my experience. Good luck!

With both of my boys..I used(am still using for my three year old) Goodnites. They hold alot at night. I put my son in easy-ups if we are going in the car. Pull-ups might be cheaper but are hard and seem like they would be uncomfortable to wear. Easy-ups go up and down easy so they can wear them and then pull them down to go potty. Good Luck!

Our first night trained so easily. But, we have tried all the suggestions mentioned so far for our 5yo and night training issues to no avail, even though she day trained 2 years ago. Her body is just not ready for her to be able to stay dry all night which I have learned is not uncommon in a child under 6. Our 3yo has been day trained for about 8 months but is still working on nights too. We have used diapers and pull-ups. When we switched the baby to cloth diapers we bought some pink and purple pocket diapers for the girls and called them snappy panties (because they fasten on with snaps. That has saved us a lot of money. To do it over again, I might try some snap-ez nap-ez trainers. We have a few snap-ez pocket diapers for the baby and they are awesome. We bought them used off diaperswappers.com and they are still going strong and hardly show any wear. If you try a cloth product and don't like it you can usually re-sell it on diaperswappers or diaperpin.com. The idea of previously owned diapers grosses some people out but they are totally disinfectable and it is another way to go green.
