My husband, 2 year old, and I would like to get away for a weekend before the new baby arrives. We're looking at May 12-14. We don't want to drive too far, not more than 2-3 hours. Anyone have a suggestion for a location? We'd like to do some outdoor activities, but other than that, we're not too picky. We thought of Duluth, but looks like it will be a busy weekend up there due to UMD graduation. Anyway, thanks in advance for your help!

I love going back home to Alexandria MN (2 1/2 hour drive)for a quick get away. Carlos State Park is great for out door adventures. There are also places to rent boats. Arrowood Resort is a bit spendy but has an indoor water park and a really good resturant (good place to go in the rain even if you don't stay there)Hotels like Comfort Inn have lower rates. There is a very new clean bowling alley. Hope this is helpful!

Hi! I have two suggestions for you.

1) The Lowell Inn in Stillwater. It is very romantic, has great restaurants (we love their fondue for two restaurant!), and Stillwater is a fun place to just roam and enjoy the antique stores and the beautiful river views. My husband and I just went there for our anniversary. Check them out at http://lowellinn.com/

2) Have you ever been to Breezy Point? They are most well known for time share, but they have hotel accommodations, too, and they are very reasonable. Check them out at http://breezypointresort.com/

Best wishes!

My family and I went up to Silver Bay MN , which is 1 1/2 hours north of duluth. They have a great hotel named Americann Inn of Siver Bay and it has an awesome indoor pool, and a national park within 10 minutes south of the hotel. The city of Silver Bay doesn't have a whole lot to do, but the big hotel rooms make up for it. We upgraded to a suite, and it was very spacious! Nice size living room, big bedroom and a porch that over looked the lake! The national park is a great place to have a picnic and do a scavenger hunt! Well, good luck with your getaway!

Try Itasca state park. It's where the Mississippi starts and you can walk across it. As well as other activities. I went there as a child and loved it. But sorry, can't give and recommendations as to where to stay.

There's also Mankato, but they might also have graduation. There's Mineopa Park that has falls. There's also Sibley Park, they have some small animals and gardens. The Mankato Mall, River Hills Mall has a carousel inside that your child can ride. HTH
