I live in Victorville, CA. The problem is that out of the 2 hospitals up here my insurance only covers Victor Valley Community Hospital and I do not want to have my baby there. Any suggestions for places down the hill in the inland empire or LA area that is a good hospital to have a baby? Since I live in Victorville I don't want the hospital to be to far away, but I am willing to commute around 45 miles or so. Please help! Also any suggestions on doctors? I have Aetna HMO insurance
What about a Midwife in a birthing center or a home birth? They've been found not only in studies they've done here but refuse to publicly share... but WORLDWIDE.
Stay at home. Hire a miwife. It is safer and healthier for you and the baby.
What health insurance do you have? That may assist people in being able to help you better.
I live in Hesperia and I had our daughter at home, with a midwife. It was the best experience! I would not have done it different. If you want, I can give you the name and number of my midwife, she lives in Victorville.
If you need to go with a hospital, I would recommend Desert Valley or St. Mary's, definitely not Victor Valley. I would never go to Desert Valley for myself, but i liked the way their maternity area looked. All of the hospitals give tours of their maternity wards, just call. The tours were an eye-opener for me. It never occurred to me that they won't let me eat, may not let my husband stay overnight, or might give me an IV whether I want it or not.
I went through the same thing 4 years ago! We lived in Hesperia and I wasn't sure where to deliver. I have a ton of friends who have delivered at St. Mary's in Apple Valley and LOVED it! It is the best hospital in the HD. I choose to deliver at Redlands Community, because I was already familiar with it. Redlands is an AMAZING hospital. The down side to going further away is that you have to drive further for every dr. appt. That gets old. Hope this helps.
Girl, I have sung your song! I did not bother having a baby up here. If I had, it would have been at St. Mary's, but everything I've heard before and after makes me very glad that wasn't necessary. I would have *loved* to be a home birther, but that just wasn't ultimately the right choice for me. I delivered at San Antonio Community Hospital (SACH.org) in Upland. Key thing to prepare for was the possibility of heavy traffic, so I tried out the route from Main Street out to the 138/15 interchange. Not sure how great that would have been in labor, but I would have done it if necessary. In my case, my water broke at 2:20 in the morning and the roads were wide open. Aside from making sure the hospital is in your insurance network you will also want to make sure that your OB has privileges at the other hopsital. Not all doctors can practice in all hospitals. I know this because I wanted to have my baby at a different hospital than the one here in my town but my OB could not deliver there.
