I really need help finding a cleanser and moisturizer for my very oily skin. I don't have money to throw away trying different things. If I buy something and it doesn't work, I'll keep using it unitl it's gone. My problem is my skin is very oily, however a lot of the cleansers and moisturizers I use will dry my skin out but the oil comes back in a couple of hours, so I end up with dry, flaky skin (mostly on my forehead, around my nose and chin, and even in my eyebrows!) with oil on top of it. It looks gross and I am fed up! Over the years I have tried so many different things. Right now I am trying Garnier cleanser and moisturizer. I thought it was going well for the first couple of weeks but now I'm starting to get the flaky skin again. Does anybody have any suggestions? BTW, I can't afford stuff that costs 30, 40.00 I'm will to go up to about 15 or 20.00 but no higher. thanks!

What can I do next?

My suggestion is to drink more water. Hydration from the inside out is a key component to having beautiful skin.

Noxema (sp?) is pretty good... you can also get those little blue oil sheets for in between washes (and make sure you're not OVER washing your face, it stimulates the oil glands), I think they're made by Clean and Clear, you just wipe it on your face and it removes excess oil, you can even wipe over make up and it only removes the oil!

DO NOT wash your face more than twice a day if you have oily skin. You'll just make the problem worse. If you're finding your face is still getting too oily for vanity's sake ... use a tissue/toilet paper/paper towel/blotting sheets to BLOT (or gently wipe in the case of the clean and clear type sheets) the oil up. Don't rub too vigorously.

Honestly I've always just used whatever I used on my body to wash my face. I wash it in the shower/bath once a day. I don't wear make-up and such so that's not an issue for me. If my face gets really oily during the day I just do a quick gentle wipe with a towel or tissue when I go to the bathroom.

I can highly recommend Lotus Moon skin care products- clean, green and good for the skin- nontoxic ingredients. A good resource is http://www.ewg.org/skindeep , a database with info regarding ingredients in many skin care products. I recommend seeing a professional aesthetician to find out exactly what is going on with your skin so the correct product/ingredients can be recommended. In ATL try natural body spas or for a reduced rate the Atlanta School of Massage and Aesthetics teaching clinic. They also sell Lotus Moon Cleanser for $32 and will last for a year. If the price is more important than quality then hate to say you usually get what you pay for. I have never liked one "cheap" skin care product I have purchased resulting in $ down the drain. Best wishes to you!

My skin sounds similar. I use Aveeno Positively Radiant makeup removing cleanser at night. In the morning I use Clean and Clear cleanser. It is the orange morning burst kind. Focus on the oily spots and not the dry patches. For a moisturizer I like CeraVe moisturizing lotion only on the dry spots and just at night. For foundation, I love Almay TLC.

Also, I love the blotting tissues that I got from a Mary Kay consultant. They soak up the oil. You just blot your face without rubbing and it gets rid of the shine. Lots of companies make them but I have only used the Mary Kay.

When I was younger, I had an extremely oily face. Apparently, your face produces more oil because it is dry and the more you wash it, the oilier it gets. So, I use a very gentle, very inexpensive face soap called Cetaphil. I wash in the morning and at night. I do splurge a little on Clinique moisturizer, which I put on after washing.

This isn't a cleanser, but I also have oily skin and I use Smashbox stuff on before I put on my makeup and I have found it works better than any cleanser I've tried. I LOVE IT. It's pricy, but totally worth it. I've tried lots of things. I use Mary Kay Velocity for my cleanser/moisturizer right now and really like it. But it's around 30-40 bucks I think.

I love Origins' Checks and Balances for a wash its on the higher end of your budget (I think the larger tube is $18.50) but you seriously only need a smidge of it to wash your whole face so I think the tube will last a year! I like the Origins scrub I use too, but I cant think of the name.A non oil based mosturizer would be good too. But start with what you can afford and build on that. They have samples sometimes of stuff and Im not sure, but I think they guarantee their products and you can return them if you dont like them (I think, so ask the sales person first!) .

Also, Target and I think Walgreens too are good about returns. Target (at least the three by me) always take back stuff (make-up/cleansers) even if its open/used. The returns guy told me once they just return it to the manufacturer so they dont really care. You shouldnt have to keep a product that sucks (lol). Id ask your stores policy to be sure tho.

I use (and sell) Mary Kay on my oily skin. You might be getting oily so quickly because the moisturizer you are using isn't enough. Even oily skin gets "thirsty". MK has an oil free hydrating cream I use at night. You would benefit from some exfoliating as well as cleansing. The Velocity cleanser does that. A set of Mary Kay's Velocity Cleanser and Moisturizer is $22. If you want anti-aging products, use the Mary Kay Time Wise for Oily/Combination skin. But that is more expensive. Cleanser and Moisturizer is $40. But the great thing about Mary Kay is 100% satisfaction guarantee! If it doesn't work for you, you get your money back.
You can find a consultant near you by going to the Mary Kay website and entering your zip code.

Have you ever tried any St. Ives products? (Target, CVS--about $6-9). There is an apricot scrub facial cleanser in a tube and an olive cleanser (might be for dry--check--I have drier skin) that I really like. And they have no parabens or phthalates, not tested on animals and contain no animal products as well.
www.stives.com has a skin profiler so you could find the right O. for your skin.
