Hi! I have a nine year old son who was practically impossible to train. I tried everything and nothing worked. I worked with him from the time he was two till he was three and a half. I found out that boys are really stubborn to the potty training issue. My son knew how to go to the potty but wasn't ready. As a matter of fact, he decided one day out of the blue that he was ready and when he went (all by himself, no help from me) he never looked back. After the first time he was completely done with pull-ups and never messed up his pants at all. My advice is just to stick with it and keep trying, but not pushing him too hard. It seems the harder we push, the harder they work not to do it. I think he will suprise you one day. Just be patient, it will come.

Don't pressure him. He's only 2. Experts say that boys usually aren't fully potty trained until 3-3 1/2 years old. But to make it fun-try putting cheerios or fruit loops in the toilet and have him try to sink them. Or they even sell items that you put in the toilet and when hit with urine they disappear.
If you truly think he's ready, you could always just try putting him in underwear (let him pick out at the store). Most kids do not like being wet, especially now that the weather is cooler.

Good Luck!

I do not have full details of your situation but what I have been told and seen on this website is that the one and only piece of advise is to NOT PUSH/FORCE your child into potty training it will only make them less likely to take hold of the concept - they'll do it when they are ready.
I have a 28 m/o that hasn't "formally" started training and don't plan on (forcing) her to do so until she is ready and willing.
Good luck!

T., My son was the worst at potty training but other mothers told me that their son didn't potty train until after they were three and that gave me hope. Low and behold my son was potty trained two months after he turned three. Hang in there he will potty train when he is ready. A. www.busymomsworkathome.com

Well to me... usually boys takes longer to be fully potty trained. My son was 3 and 3months when he was potty trained. But u can try dry cereal with a ring in them and put it in the potty and tell ur son to try to pee on them. And all so tell daddy to take him potty with him so he can understand how to do it.

My son was a challenge also. He'll be 4 on st. patricks day and is fully potty trained. I started trying when he was 2 1/2. I tried the pull ups... I tried catching him in the act and getting him to the potty on time, we even bought him a musical kings potty that played music anytime they went...nothing. Then I bought him a potty seat that fits over ours and put him in real underware and let him have a few accidents and he just started going like it was natural for him. He didnt like feeling wet or pooping on himself.I think the diapers and pull ups henders children from feelings wet, so they never have a motive to want to go. If you think of it from a kids veiw..who would want to stop and go to the bathroom if u could pee on yourself without feeling wet or skipping a beat of play time.Every child has their on ways od learning, just keep trying to find your childs motive.

I guess I was lucky potty training my son. We used the egg timer method. I set it for 30 mins and every time it went off we went to the potty. He was trained in 2 weeks. I am now looking at training my daughter. She isnt quite 2 yet, and dont plan on starting till after she turns 2. But agree with the other mommies...dont push or fuss...just keep trying and changing. Pull-ups are a joke, do it the old fashioned way...real underpants and plastic pants...they do still sell them...at Wal-Mart.
