I was wondering if anyone had some potty training tips? My daughter is 2 1/2. Do you use pull ups or do you think those confuse the child.

What can I do next?

Hello,
I kind of agree with several of the reponses you have. I went with the feel and learn pull-ups a few months and we practiced sitting on the potty and just kind of got used to everything. Then we actually started potty training weeks later. I actually stayed with the pull-ups because he was doing pretty well and we were on the go alot to Grama and in the car where I didn't want him to wet (or worse). Once he had the hang of it we switched. Though I will tell you, he didn't poop on the potty for about 6 months after he was pee potty trained. Good Luck.

In my experience it will go much faster if you use padded training underwear and skip the pull ups altogether during the day. As you said in your question, I think it does confuse the child to use pull ups. It is hard for them to figure out: Is it okay to go in my pants or not? With training underwear the feeling is uncomfortable enough that they will want to avoid that feeling again, which provides motivation to get to the potty!

Pull ups are great to use when the child is too big to fit on the changing tables.

They are ok to start out on, but I wouldn't use them for very long. The throw away aspect is the difference, kids figure it out and then don't care.
Use them for maybe 2--4 weeks. Then just go to training underwear (thick padded underwear).

I bought the Pull-Ups feal and learn for my 2yo when she started using the toilet; and I think it was a BIG MISTAKE for my child. At first she hated peeing in them because it was uncomfortable. After a week of using the potty & occasionaly going in her Pull-Ups, she no longer cares if they are wet. Today we are using the regular thick underwear and she got upset when she peed in them b.c they get wet and irritate her skin. We also use the potty seat that sits on the toilet and if I forget to take it with us to the store, she gets mad at me and says 'where baby seat'. Best of Luck, Potty training is not easy.

I think they really have to display readiness like wanting to go. If not then be prepared to put some time in to make them ready. I waited till my oldest was 3 years old and he took one day to train.
