I went to the doctor for Chrisitan's 2 month check up and the doctor says he is a little on the dry side. Any advice for good moisturizing creams that will not cause irritation, but will cure his dryness. The doctor says it is hereditary, but the lotion I am using just does not seem to be doing the trick. I am using Baby Magic, regular formula.
Thank you to your many responses! I am in the process of contacting a Melaleuca representative so I can get my hands on the Renew that so many of you suggested! I will let everyone know how his skin is once I begin using it.

The ARBONNE baby products is the way to go. Both of my kids have eczema and it keeps it under control! Before using ARBONNE, their skin was so bad that we were almost to the point of getting a prescription for it. We are so glad that we gave the ARBONNE products a try.

I would agree with the other two or so moms...Renew Lotion from Melaleuca is by far the best. Not only does it clear up dry skin, it keeps it from coming back, plus it's all natural! NO harsh chemicals/toxins in it like some of the other products mentioned.

I love Melaleuca renew - we use many of their cleaning products as well and it makes a big difference in my kiddos skin quality.
Also - consider using natural, edible quality oils and doing a daily massage. I have a massage blend I use with my babies and kids that has a little bit of lavender essential oil and chamomile essential oil which is very soothing to skin and it's in a base of avocado, sweet almond, apricot kernel, and other yummy oils.
Avoid anything with a petroleum base, mineral oil ingredient becuase they will not absorb into the skin and will do more harm than good.

Without question, I would recommend Renew lotion by Melaleuca. My boys have extremely dry skin and no other lotion we have tried (Eucerin, Aquaphor, Cetaphil, Jergens, Johnson & Johnson, Aveeno, store brands, etc)has done the trick. It is not at all greasy and is clinically proven to keep your skin softer than Eucerin, the leading doctor recommended lotion. It is definitely my first choice!
When my daughter was little, our pedi recommended Eucerin lotion. I left her skin a little damp and then rubbed it in good and let it dry so that her skin would keep the moisture.

Wow, I see you've had a lot of responses. I agree that the Renew is awesome- it's the only thing I use for myself. However, my son had a case of excema about a year ago and it was because he was too dry. I used a bunch of different stuff on it (including the Renew) but found that the only thing that worked well was the Cetaphil cream (not lotion with the pump, but the tub of "cream"). It's the only thing my husband has used for a while on himself and our son ('til he found some Vitamin E cream at Sam's Club that he likes too- but it smells like a grandma). My son's excema cleared up completely and no one is dry anymore around here. You can get the Cetaphil cream at the grocery store (at least Market Street) or Sam's club, which is why I'm posting- you may not want to go through a rep to get the Arbonne or Melaleuca- I don't know. It is expensive, but lasts a while. (Not anymore expensive than the Arbonne or Melaleuca, of course.)

Eucerine or Aquaphore creme is the best and it does not cause irritation.
I use Renew Moisturizing Lotion from Melaleuca. It was tested against Eucerin (the top selling lotion for excessive dry skin) in a scientific study (in Canada during the winter months) and was proven better for dry skin and it is not greasy and I love the way it feels and smells. It's all about the ingredients - you want something that is absorbed into the skin and not just sitting on top of the skin. Mineral oil does not penetrate and it is found in most lotions so it just sits on top of the skin acting as a barrier and does not release toxins or take in nutrients. There is also a common ingredient in the basic stuff like lanolin which is animal oil - not too much better and causes irritations. I highly recommend the Arbonne Baby Care as well and even use the baby oil when my kids are extra dry from swimming, etc...it is by far the best!
My "baby" has eczema, which was showing up as "just really, really dry skin" when he was Christian's age. Our pedi had us use Eucerin (in the tub), but I HATED it, because it felt like I was going to tear my son's skin off just getting the lotion on him!

Our pedi recommended Eucerin, so we use that. He said to dampen our baby's skin lightly and then apply lotion, basically to seal the moisture in.
We've also used Aquaphor on extremely dry, patchy spots from time to time. I've known another mom to use Cetaphil with good results.
I use Burt's Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion. It is around $9 a bottle at Target and other places, but it works wonderfully. It is thinner than most lotions, so you don't get that cakey feeling when you use it. I use it on myself as well as my baby. My baby also has dry skin like me, including his scalp. They have a Baby Bee Apricot Oil that is wonderful for the skin too. I put it on his forehead and scalp about once a week. You can get a trial kit at Target that has a few different items in it...including the lotion, oil, and diaper cream.
My 19 month old gets the same dry skin once the cooler air arrives. I've found the best and easiest way to combat it is to use Avenno baby bath soap for dry/sensitive skin and, right after his bath, to use any type of lotion for dry, sensitive skin. I use all different types (Eucerin, Luberderm, Avenno, Burt's, etc.) and found that they are equally effective as long as they are applied right after bath time.
Luberderm is the best I have found. My son had really dry sick last winter and that seemed to help.

try putting a little baby oil in your baby's warm bath water.
then rub lotion in his skin when he is fresh from the bath so that is skin is still slightly damp. I use regular johnson and johnson baby lotion and mix it in my hands with a drop of baby oil before rubbing it on my 16 mo old. He has the BEST skin thanks to my pampering.:)

We use and love Aveeno for babies. I asked my son's doctor about it and she said that was a great one to use. My son was born 10 days past my due date and his skin was so dry and peeling. They used the Johnson & Johnson baby lotion there but it was not very moisturizing. We tried Aquaphor and Eucerin and they were very greasy. My son continued to have really dry skin after that initial layer fell off and his doctor said that like most babies, ours had Eczema. Last winter his skin got even drier and we were sick of the greasy feel of the Aquaphor and Eucerin so I had my husband get the Aveeno lotion and we have been using that for the past year whenever he has any dry areas. I love that lotion and it absorbs quickly. They have a lighter version that is good for daily use but the regular version was not too heavy at all.
It might just come down to a personal preference but you could try a few different ones recommended here and see what works best for you. I personally love the Aveeno and recommend it very highly. Oh by the way, we use Dove soap when giving my son a bath and it really helps his skin not dry out as well. His doctor said Dove and Aveeno were both great and recommended them as well. Just be careful about using some scented products since they can irritate the skin and some contain alcohol which actually dries the skin even more.

My daughter had "alligator skin" when she was born and I used Johnson's baby Lotion. I also tried the Gerber lotion and that seemed to work pretty good too. Maybe you could try something that is scent free. Sometimes it's the extra added scents that cause the lotion not to work. Good Luck to you and congrats on your sweet little boy.
