Getting Pregnant Even Though You Are "Double Done"

"Double Done"....that is what my OB says since my husband had a vasectomy and I had my tubes tied. Now, I know that even though it is NEXT to impossible for me to get pregnant there is still the teensy tiny itty bitty chance it could happen...do you know of a women getting pregnant even though she had a tubal and he had a vasc????

the only reason i am asking, and I am just being silly, is because I am starting to psych myself out and I am just a weirdo too I guess. Here comes some TMI...last month my period came 5 days early, that has never happened since I started my period, ever. And my period lasted a week, that has also never happened, I am always 3 to 4 days tops. I am as regular as they come, you could almost set a clock to my periods. so, this month since I didnt start early I was like hhmmmmmm. I should be starting on sunday. add to that, I have had a few nauseous spells,( I never get naseous except when i was preggo), have been having very frequent vivid dreams, (i rarely if ever dream usually), have been super tired ( i get plenty of sleep every night and get a nap in a few times a week as well) and my nipples are tender sore and sensitive. oh yeah, and I am super weepy/emotional.

In the back of my mind I am like, oh my gosh i'm pregnant. But in the rational part of my brain I know that the likely hood of being pregnant is super tiny. I think the fact that last month my period was wonky is making me all crazy this month. I am probably just having a super major case of PMS...I know there was a question in there somewhere. oh yeah, any stories of anyone you know or heard of getting preggo even though they both had been "fixed" and if so, isnt the likelyhood of the pregnancy being a tubal super high in that case?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@ Marsha G>>>>> I have had my thyroid checked twice in the past 6 months, for other reasons. both times everything came back normal.

like I said, the rational part of me knows i'm not pregnant, just psyching myself. out. it's one of those things that now that i typed it all out and put it out there I feel so much better. I know i'll start on sunday. and if i dont, OMG, then i'll really really be freaking out and be at the store buying up every pregnancy test i can get...LOL. in the 19 years that I have been menstrating, there have only been 2 times that I was "late", and those were the 2 times I was preggo...lol

It can happen, my friend's sister had tubal ligation and the husband had a vasectomy a few years before..........she was quite overweight, was not feeling well, gaining more weight, having stomach and bowel issues, felt like gas movement, so went to the Dr., the Dr. insisted she have a pap smear, did exam.......she was six months pregnant and was feeling the baby move. The lady was 43 at the time, the kid is now in his teen's. Big shocker for them and this was her first and only child.

Swettie You might need your thyroid checked. Look into the symptoms of thyroid issues. I hope all is welll. Stress can cause the same symptoms.

Women who can set a clock by their periods are usually "alpha" hormone-wise. Meaning every job you've ever worked or class you've ever taken everyone else's periods are getting messed up to line up with yours.

MOST of the time, if your period gets wonky (and you're not pregnant) it's

- dieting/exercise/stress (will halt your cycle for up to several months at a time)
- spending several hours a day with an 'alpha'

Which is why most OBgyns won't see you for a wonky period unless it's been 3 or more in a row OR you think you're pregnant.

Usually in 3 months your body has figured out how to keep ovulating/menstruating. If not, then it's usually not stress or an alpha but something medically up (like poor nutrition, or hormonal imbalance, or certain infections or diseases)

Myself... I'd grab some tests just to ease my mind. Often sheerly the act of buying (or using) a test can destress enough that ypur period will come back online.

I am not sure what your age is, however, things just change hormonally at certain points. After the birth of my son, my period was never regular again. I am also in my mid-thirties. My gyn said it's just normal to become irregular as we reach a more advanced reproductive age and to expect the unexpected. Take care...

I saw a baby story once about a family that had it happen a few times. It went something like he was done, she got pregnant again. So then she was done and she got pregnant again. I think they had twins or something or had before that. She had c-sections for all and when she had the last baby they did a hysterectomy.

Stories like that make me think that God is just winking at us and telling us that he won't let us take his matters into hands LOL.

Hormones get messed up by other things than pregnancy. I suggest your hormone levels are off and probably for a benign reason. Just being as anxious as you are could delay your period. You may be starting into perimenopause. Or this just may be a freakish incident. Try to relax. Keep telling yourself that you know you aren't pregnant. Eventually you will feel better.

You can get pregnancy tests at The Dollar Tree (store) that are just as accurate as those you pay more for.

Oh, I'm right there with you!! Except that my *done* is that I'm still breastfeeding and haven't gotten a period yet. But I'm also weepy, moody, tired, more nauseous than when I *was* pregnant and have sore nipples. Of course, I've taken tests to confirm a non-pregnancy, but still.

I've heard of quite a few people who've conceived after a vasectomy, but none with being "double done" :o)

Well, I am of no help to you but my husband has also had the V done, I am almost 42, he rarely 'releases inside of me' and yet, he did once, last month...and I am almost 2 weeks late! So I say, either I am prego OR this is premenopause! I am not sure which is worse! Maybe you are getting ready to start, those are my symptoms when I am about to start...stressing makes it not happen too. Try a nice, hot bath to relax and see if you start. Maybe you are going into premenopause?? Not sure of your age but it is just a thought....

Don't know how old you are but the Peri-menopausal stuff can start even in the late 30's I think, for some people. Maybe your cycle is just changing some? I think with two forms of sterilization, that if you are pregnant this is your miracle baby!! Just meant to be, like that would be one for the books ;) Most likely you are just fine and your hormones have decided to do their own thing. Good luck!!

No idea on "double done" but I know people who have a surprise baby years after a vasectomy. Very rare, but sometimes happens.

did your husband get "checked" after he had his vasectomy? I know it is easy to talk yourself into something like that too. Hope you get what you want!!!

That would be pretty amazing, but I'm sure it happens! I haven't personally heard of it, though. I have just finished reading a ton online on tubals (due to another discussion thread) and learned that tubals can mess with hormones and periods. Could that possibly be the case? If you're pregnant, I hope it's not a tubal pregnancy...and that would be totally awesome because WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!!
