Has anyone delivered at Emory John's Creek that can share their experience with me? Would you recommend it? Was the experience good or bad? I have to choose between there and North Fulton Regional, and was initially thinking Emory, but I read a few bad reviews. Anything anyone can share would be helpful.

Hi L.! I've delivered at both hospitals and had a wonderful experience at both. I will say, however, I'm partial to N. Fulton. My mom heads up the sterile processing dept. (they supply the OR and delivery w/ their instrument trays) and they are top-notch so I've always felt that I was not going to leave the hospital with something I didn't have before I came in (if you know what I mean).

I delivered twice at Gwinnett Medical - 2 TOTALLY different experiences - and once at Johns Creek.
I had a great experience w. the staff at Johns Creek. Food was also much better than at G.M. I delivered naturally all 3 times - had a horrible nurse during labor with #1 (disappeared for HOURS - my mom had to hunt her down anytime my monitor changed or we needed anything. Huffed and puffed and was irritated that I would not get an epidural - just awful) and a different nurse made a mistake monitoring me the next day (read my systolic blood pressure number as my pulse causing the dr to want to keep me longer for monitoring) during recovery but I had great nurses and a great experience with #2 at the same hospital so regardless of where you go, your experience is going to depend on the nurse you get.
All of the staff I had at Johns Creek were great and educated. I went into labor a little after 3pm. Arrived at the hospital around 3:40. Made it through check in and was 3-4 cm around 4:15 - no change from the previous week. One hour later I was 9 cm. I gave birth at 5:30. The nurse worked with me and LISTENED to me. I said I felt weird, knew she had checked me just an hour previous, but would feel better if she checked me again and asked if she would be willing to try to check me standing up b/c I was pretty uncomfortable. She checked me standing up and completely calmly told me I was 9 cm and she would get my docor in ASAP. I would have been better off if she had delivered me. All of my bad experience with birth #3 was 100% due to my OB being paniced - her tone, words, and demeanor made me, my husband, and my mom all think my daughter was dying. It was horrible. Then she pulled on the placenta so hard that a piece ripped off and she had to go up and try to find it with her hand - all while I was trying to meet my daughter for the first time. I passed the piece of placenta several days later. Ugh. All totally unnecessary and avoidable.
Anyhow. The Johns Creek Staff I encountered were all thoughtful, educated, and kind. I felt very pampered - they brought me extra food after the cafeteria had closed b/c I was ravenous after giving birth. The rooms felt like hotel rooms, not hospital rooms. Clean. New. Easy to Navigate for visitors. No water births offered though. Johns Creek also has some special status for Neonatal care - able to handle more intensive/complicated neonatal cases than others in the area. Would be a good thing to inquire about. I have forgotten the details but know that it made me feel safe that if there were a problem the baby would stay in the same facility that I gave birth in.

I delivered at NF in 2007. I highly recommend it. When I entered I was 4cm, I told them I was going natural and no one tried to convince me otherwise or make any snide comments. (although they did close my door!)
The midwife that I paid who knows how much for didnt make it on time, but someone manage to deliver my baby safely!
Also, there is a nurse there who is probably single handedly the reason that I nursed successfully.
Which brings me to the downside- On the weekend they apparently had a skeleton shift. No lactation expert. Only one nurse had even bf her own child and the "cafeteria" was either closed or some part of it was closed on weekend.
That being said- I'd do it again!

First, congrats on your upcoming delivery!
I delivered my youngest daughter at Kennestone, but had I been able to use my OBs at North Fulton, I would have delivered there. As I understand, NF has birthing tubs, which is a huge draw for a lot of women.
