Could I Actually Be Pregnant?

My husband and I tried to get pregnant for almost 2 years. We did not go to a specialist because we cannot afford any treatments that aren't covered by insurance anyway. I know from my OB-GYN that I have PCOS and it will be very difficult for me to have another baby anyway. So, finally I gave up (for now) because I decided I wanted to change jobs and a baby wouldn't be good for that kind of situation. So I got back on the pill a few weeks ago. I took a preg. test about a week before I started the pills. I didn't wait for a period because I could've waited forever. I don't get regular periods at all because of the PCOS. So I have been on the pills for a few weeks and now my breasts are extremely sore. Could this be a side effect of the pill? I don't remember this ever happening when I started the pill in the past. Or could I be pregnant? This may seem like jumping the gun, but I don't know why my breasts would be this sore. I haven't taken a test yet this time because I wanted to get some opinions first. Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your advice. I am not pregnant. But when we are ready to try again I will definitely ask the doctor about metformin. I need to find a new job first. I hate the job I have now. But I have an interview today, so we'll see what happens.
Thanks again.

I've been on the pill for about a month and man, are my breasts sore!!! It sucks, especially with my 2yo son bumping into them and elbowing them all the time!!! I don't remember it so much the last time I was on the pill (couple of years ago), but I do remember them getting larger (along with the rest of me- ugghh!). Btw, I have endometriosis and our son is adopted- I'm right there with ya, girl- I'm only on the pill to help keep the endo under control- wish I could get pregnant, but after almost 9 years of marriage and nothing happening- doesn't look like it's going to. Oh well. Guess we'll just adopt again someday. Worked great for us the first time.

Yes, the pill can make your chest sore but so can pregnancy.

But I wanted to say that I have PCOS and I got pregnant the first time with fertility meds (not too high level stuff but did get shots.) For the 2nd one, I went to Dr.F (his website: DrDAvidF.com; he is an endocronologist and a bit ADD) and he put me on Metformin and told me I would be pregnant in three months. I was on pregnant on the dot!! The third child was a miracle from God as there was no medical intervention. So, one woman with PCOS to another, try Metformin if you want to have kids. I wish the doctors knew about it with my first child!

Sore breasts was my absolute 1st sign with both of my pregnancies.
I would get sore breasts a few days before my period was due and I knew for sure with the 2nd pregnancy that I was pregnant before I even took the test.
The pill has never caused me to have sore breasts but I know of women that get them before their period even if they don't take the pill.
Have you ever gotten them before a period?
If so, it's probably hormonal but if you don't normally get them, you're most likely pregnant!
Good luck and keep us updated!

I've used the pill for 8 years and never had sore breasts. But now I have a IUD, and it took about 3 - 4 months for my body to adjust. For a couple of weeks I also had sore breasts, just like when pregnant. Maybe your body response to the pill is like mine to the IUD?

Good luck, I.

I believe the way the pill works, is that it tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant. So yes, it is certainly understandable that your breasts would be sore.

The pill could definately cause your breasts to be sore. There are many reasons why they would be this time and not previous times on the pill, mainly the type of pill and the level of hormones the pill contains.

As for the PCOS, I too suffer from it and my husband and I tried for a year and a half before finally getting pregnant. We're now expecting a little girl in July. I fully agree with the other post regarding the Metformin. This is actually a drug used to treat diabetes, but they have found that PCOS may actually be linked back to the bodies production of insulin and once the insulin gets regulated by the Metformin your body starts producing your other hormones like it should and you start ovulating again. I had not had a period for almost a year, within one month of starting the Metformin my periods started and became fairly regular again.

I still was not able to conceive on Metformin alone. We had to do one round of Clomid to get pregnant, but my insurance did not cover it either but after calling around to different pharmacies I found Sam's had it for only $20 or so. So it really wasn't all that expensive.

Go ahead and take a test to see if you are pregnant and if not I would highly recommend talking to your OB about Metformin.
