I am having my son's 1st birthday party in about 2 months, the theme for the party is monkeys. I need some ideas on a centerpiece that includes a stuffed animal monkey and a 4x6 picture frame that will include my son's picture inside. I'm not a big fan of Curious George.

What can I do next?

You can buy an inflatable palm tree for the table, then use it as a pool floatie after. Get a monkey with long arms that stick together with velcro (rally monkey) to hang from the tree. My one year old has one and delights in wearing it around her neck as she toddles around!

What about the sock monkeys? How about placing a hellium balloon in one of the monkey's hand (arm up)? and nestle the pic frame in his lap. Put a party hat on him and a party blower by his foot. Or peel a banana and place the peel upside down on his head.

Or find more realistic monkeys, and make little cages to place them in., (perhaps out of a double wide cereal box- cut the 'bars' with an exacto knife) and then spray paint them grey. put tan raffia in the bottom of the cage as "straw". Place a note or a tent card nearby, "don't feed the animals", throw some peanuts around the cage. Perhaps some of the notes could read " This place is a zoo!" Cut out a male's shape from heavy card stock- dressed like an animal trainer in khakies and a safari hat. Glue your sons facial photo where the face should be! Put a stand on the bottom (like paper dolls used to have). Place it next to the cage. Get a piece of jewelry chain -attach/hot glue it to the hand of the trainer, and then to a collar around the monkey's neck.

Favors: a barrell full of monkeys toy, animal crackers, peanuts.

Hello, there are some cute monkey beanie babies that we as a family have done fun stuff with like " making signs that say no monkey stuff do your homework" or Don't feed the monkey becasue some wise guy will give it a snickers bar! You could get some cheap monkeys at a dollar store and gluegun picture frames to its tummy for each table sitting on fruit or bannana leaf. Even a giant gorilla can be rented at most costume places.
Have a great time!

Use some bananas to make a circle around a stuffed monkey, and little monkey photo holders to put the pictures in.
Instead of using peanuts, you should consider circus peanuts, with all the allergies out there you can be too careful.

Here are some cute monkey photo holders I found...

Make a Banana tree and then put the money in the tree and have the picture next to the tree trunk.

Right now the baby room craze is jungle theme so you should have no problem finding a stuffed monkey - my grandson got 3 for his baby shower 2 months ago. I know we did a lot of shopping at Target, WalMart and BabysRus so I can't tell you where I saw it but I did see a monkey picture frame at one of those. Another idea is to take the soft boat rope (Walmart) and tea it (soak it in tea and then let it dry) the hot glue some leaves pulled off vine (it will make your vine go further) and whalla you have swinging vines wherever you hang them.

Put the monkey sitting up in the basket. If he's at least a bit larger than bananas include some in the basket with him. Set the basket on a place mat or piece of colored paper and set the picture next to the basket on the place mat or paper.
