The next progression from a DDD cup is a G in Playtex- you can only order online. I would wait as long as possible before buying a bunch of bras. I am a 36DD and I grew to an H by my third trimester. Once the baby was born, I ballooned up to an L cup. You can also look at Figleaves.com. They carry a lot of larger cup sizes.

I live in a small town with very limited options for bras that aren't a B, C or D cup. As a result, I have been buying all of mine online for years now. I have 2 websites that I use, and they are both really great in terms of being able to order several styles and return anything that doesn't fit. One site offers free shipping and the other is around $5 per order.
The sites are www.breakoutbras.com and www.figleaves.com, in case you are looking for a new option. My favorite brands are Freya and Fantasie, but there are dozens of great ones. Both sites have sections specifically for nursing/maternity and sections for DD+, with sizes up to J or K cups at least. Also, as far as I understand, a DDD is an F, which is to say if you are wearing a 38DDD now it is a 38F. If you are planning to nurse your baby I highly recommend the Bravado Bliss nursing bra, I just got one and I love it, it is my favorite nursing bra. It goes up to an H/I cup.
And finally, just a rant, because this is a pet peeve of mine. Feel free to ignore this if it doesn't apply to you.
The last time I was in a local lingerie store, one of their "fitters" (a high school student with a measuring tape) fit me as a 38 or 40 DD. I am actually a 36G. Most stores only carry bras up to 38 or 40 band size and DD is as far as they go in the cup, so guess what, even if you are bigger than that, especially in the cup, they just squeeze you into what they have. I'm guessing that there are a lot of women out there who have had this experience and who are wearing bras that don't fit well and don't give proper support because that's what the stores have. When I put on a bra that actually fit for the first time, it was unbelievable how different I looked. The breakoutbras site has good instructions for measuring/sizing yourself, maybe you are in the same boat I was?
I have a feeling that you will be surprised at how many great bra options there are out there for the well-endowed.

As a 38DDD or 36DDDD, I shop almost exclusively for lingerie at Nordstroms. They're freakin' expensive at about $100 each, but Chantelle etc bras I've had last for over 4 years before they even *start* to show wear, and 6 years before needing to retire them (the elastic starts to go or the lace starts to fray which means they're not as supportive). On average, washing 2-3x per week, they last about 5 years. That's $20 a year for pretty pretty sexy gorgeous *super* well made wear it for 15 hours a day and not even feel it lingerie

My sister and I are in the same boat as you. Before I was preggo I was wearing a 40D, which doesn't seem like big, but that was what I could find in a store. I had my baby at the end of June and I was really falling out in March. I measured myself then and I was a 36 underneath, with a 42 bust! My sister suggested www.breakoutbras.com. They had a great pullover bra by Medela that goes in S/M/L/XL etc, except they used a different lingo. Off hand I can't remember it. Anyway, they go up in sizes within that, so the band would go from say a 36-40 with cups within that area.

The only downfall I had with these bras is that there is no real cup defintion and it's a pull-over, but I could handle that until after my son was born.

Breakout bras was great for getting you the right size. Shipping was free, but of course you have to pay to send it back if it doesn't fit. They did credit you in the end though. They also had a great page that showed you how to exactly measure yourself too, which I liked.

They do tend to be rather expensive and it seemed that most of the bras were coming fom the UK so it was hard to get stuff in stock sometimes.

I did end up returning the bras I bought from them after my son was born. According to breakout, I went from a 36 F or so to a 36 J! It was extremely difficult to have them send me a few bras, try them on, and send back the ones that didn't fit. I kind of gave up on it because I didn't have the money in the account to keep charging, sending back, and waiting for the credit to show up.

I did buy my current bras from www.motherhood.com and am sort of o.k. with them, but they do have a plunging neckline spot so I feel like I'm spilling out at various times of the day.

Another site I looked at when I was preggo. the first time was www.birthandbaby.com. I was rather busty then too and found a few bras I really liked. The shipping was very inexpensive. I think around $3 for the entire shipment. I wore those bras out and couldn't find the replacment for the second baby! :(

I wear very large bras -- they have very large nursing bras. Their website shows you how to take your measurement to get the right size. Keep in mind after a D sizes seem to vary pretty widely.

Oh, Girl...I hear you! I got up to an I while pregnant...so I feel you. Bravado makes a good nursing bra that is super comfie and goes up to big sizes. I know you aren't quite ready for that yet, but just a heads up. I'm pretty sure you can order those on line somewhere. As far as bras, you're going to get more uncomfortable in so many other ways, that I suggest getting a new bra ASAP! I had to bump up pretty quickly too...I was like a month pregnant and my boobs were HUGE! Do you have a Nordstrom's near you? If so, get there soon. "Affordable" isn't maybe the word I'd associate with Nordstrom but seriously they have the BEST bra fitters and selection for bustier women out of anywhere I've ever gone. Even if you just splurge on one good bra, it will be worth it, I promise! Hang in there!

Use bra extenders as long as you can. Although many people think it won't work, once they put them on they realize how much more comfortable they feel. Yes, even if you have spillage. An extender may get you through another month or two before having to buy a bra.
DO NOT buy a nursing bra before 7 1/2 months of pregnancy. The rate your ribs open up and your breasts get bigger during pregnancy is not the same rate they go down after the baby is born. That nursing bra you buy now may never fit you again.
Panache makes nice bras that are for the full busted. They also make nursing bras when it time for that.
Anita also makes nursing bras for the full busted.

I was going to suggest Victoria Secret, but they only go up to DDD. They have some newer lines that are quite affordable and, as always, they are SUPER comfortable.

the cacique brand that lane bryant carries is great for me. they offer cotton knit ones that stretch and shrink, so as my weight fluctuates, they have no problem accomodating my 38 Fs, and i havent been pregnant for more than 19 years... my advice is to go to a real lingerie store and be measured by a pro and try to look for a bra that is made of cotton knit that may carry you through a size or two. i'd also recommend that if you get underwire bras, no matter the price, dont machine wash or machine dry them. i've made that mistake too many times, costing me tons of money over the years... good luck!
