some of the things my kiddos liked at that age were...a rocking horse ( little tikes makes ne that is low to ground and way fun). A small scooter, the kind they sit on and push foward with feet. Hippity hop, hmmm oh leap frog toys like the little drum that does numbers and letters at one might not get it but they liked the lights and sounds. Fisher price makes simular stuff like that too. I would ask you friend what here kiddo likes....or what shows he watches like Blues Clues or Dora.....my kiddos are all about Cars right now so everything comes with some kind of Cars ( the movie) print lol good luck

A big truck or tractor. Costco has some nice big ones. Toy zone will have some I'm sure. Marshalls often has a couple of nice ones too.

My little boy got Mega Bloks for his first b-day from my sister and he has LOVED them! They are still one of his favorites. They are kind of like giant legos. I think she got them at Toys R Us.

First of all, and I learned this from my own mother, you might ask the mother if there is anything in particular that he NEEDS to receive for his birthday. Otherwise, I love board books and bath books, especially the touchy feely books from Usborne. I am an Usborne distributor, but you can find those books at Hastings and other major bookstores.

Nothing, he's one! parties and presents are always for the parents at this age. I always wait until at least the 3rd birthday to have any kind of party or gifts. They really dont know any difference.
If you do get him anything, get blocks or something simple, my 1 year old is tickled by the simplest little things!

The Fisher Price Piggy Bank is a great gift for a one year old. My daughter received it for her 1st birthday & loved it so much I bought it for my nephew this past September when he turned one and he loves it!

A big truck that he can push around is another good idea.

My son loves the Fisher Price Piggy bank. He also loves the Fisher Price cash register. I could only find it at Toys R Us. Basically any kind of puzzle toy such as the bank or a shape sorter or nesting cups. They love to sit and figure things out. Have fun!
