Baby's Age

After 5 1/2 months do you really have to be that specific? How about when someone asks how old he is just telling them he is about 5 1/2 months old.

My kids are all grown and when a new mom asks when they did certain things I usually say something like, they walked when they were about 10 months old, or they potty trained at about 2 1/2 years old, or they went to school at around 5 years old, etc. I knew a woman once that drove people nuts with stats about her kid. She could tell you the age her son did something down to the day (ie: He took his first step at 11 months, 2weeks and 3 days). It got to the point no one wanted to ask how old her kid was or when he did certain things.

On Aug. 13th he'll be 5 months old. If you calculate it by weeks, then he'll turn a year old 2 weeks early. Also, you have to remember that each month is 4.3 weeks long. that's why you're coming up with 22 weeks. There are 52 weeks in a year, 52 divided by 12 months comes out to 4.33333.

Its MONTHS

In february there are only 28 days -usually
sometimes there are as many as 32 days in a month

Our calendars go by months. so every year on the DAY of your sons birth he ends a year so on the 13th he will have completed 5 months of his life.

AND technically 22 weeks of his life.

but we don't count these weeks.because a calendar year is based on months. 12 months for a year and 52 weeks for a year.

and since some months are shorter and longer than others, it all evens out in the end.

Weeks are generally only used while pregnant, thats why most people say your pregnant for 9 months, --not for 40 weeks.

As for saying he is 22 weeks old, its really up to you.
its a personal preference. it doesn't need to be exacted.

Last little bit would be to read the labels on the clothing,
0-3 months 3-6 months 6-9 months 9-12 months 12-18 months
18-24 months, and then finally 2T, 3T, 4T 5T

24 months is when a infant is considered a toddler. and you start counting by years instead of months.

I've been going by months and weeks.

My daughter was born Feb 28th this year and she is 5 months 2 weeks old. This way I only have to count up to 4 for the weeks. :-)

Well, people always say weeks, in the beginning. Since there are some month's with more then 4 weeks (Aug for ex). But he's only 5 mos on the 13th of Aug. So at his age I would use months. For example my daughter just turned 1. I say she's 12 mos not 52 wks. That just sounds silly.

I would go by months not weeks you will drive yourself crazy. I have a 6 month old born on 02/01/2008. So, every 1st I add a month to her age.

That is a good question! lol. When I was pregnant I went by weeks instead of months because, as you know, its off when you go by months. Now I just go by months with my daughter. Its alittle tricky since months do not have the same amount of days from month to month throwing off the count if you go by weeks. If you asked me, I would say your son is 5 months. I think everyone just stops going by weeks after their child is born and starts counting by months... but that is a good question ... But in the long run, his birthday will never be the same if you counted it by weeks. I think thats why everyone would go by months now, so the actual birth day will be the same day from year to year.

you go by months after they turn one month old. not weeks... as some months has 5 weeks and some 4.. so just say 5 months or 6 months or ever 6 and 1/2 months.. good luck

I've always gone by the date my kids were born. For instance, my youngest is 16 months old now. He was born on April 3rd 07, so every month on the 3rd I add a month. A lot less confusing that counting days. I'd say your son is 5 months old.

I would go by months! When you make appointments at the doctor's office, it's by months (3 months, 6 months, 9 months, etc.). Enjoy your little guy!

Isn't it amazing how we drive ourselves crazy with things like this. I know that you already solved your problem, but I hate it when people ask how old my daughter is and then expect me to pipe in with the exact number of months. I think she is 19 months...but time flies and I lose track and she might be 20...or does she turn 20 months next week? See what I mean...I get so confused by it. I usually just say 1 1/2 or even just 1. I would definitely just go with the months at this point. But, it does all depend on why you are figuring it I suppose. I mean, obviously as he gets older, there is a big difference between 24 months and 33 months, for example, so to just say your child is 2 might not be specific enough.

30 day has September, April, June and November.
All the rest have 31 except for February which has 28...blah, blah blah.

Definetly none of them have 32 days. I really hope that's a typo on Mary's part.
