I gained 60 lbs. when I had my daughter. I thought (for some crazy reason)that the weight would just come off on it's own, but it didn't. I strted walking and drank only water and in less than a year I was back to normal. I hope that helped

I teach a strollerfit class that is geared towards moms. We workout three times a week doing aerobics, weight training and stretching. The kids stay in their strollers while the mommies work out. Its a great way to lose some weight while meeting other moms and having fun. The first class is free. If you want more information, you can check out the website at www.strollerfit.com. Hope that helps.

Count your calories. My husband is doing this right now and in 50 days has dropped 25 pounds. Most of it body fat. He logged on to The Biggest Looser website. Enter some basic information like height, weight, sex. Then it will tell you how many calories you'll need to consume in a day to loose weight. For my husband it was 1200-1400. He went with 1300 to start. He has cut out his sodas so that helped a lot. He was consuming about 5 sodas a day that alone was about 1200 calories if not more. Then you need to keep a food diary. Log EVERYTHING, including how many ounces and how many calories it contains. In the beginning we were weighing everything to get an idea as to size and portions. 1300 calories is a lot of food if you choose the right food. In the morning try 2 servings of egg beaters (60 cal) with 3 pieces of canadian bacon (70 cal) and salsa (10 cal) and a piece of dry toast (80 cal): Between meals look for the 100 calories snacks, there's lots of options out there, look in the snack bins. They are a bit more expensive if you break it down, but its worth it since it is already pre measured. He ususally picks up a subway sandwich at lunch which are about 300 calories. But then you can do lunch meats with pita bread. Veggies with hummus are also a great mix that you can add to your meals. Hummus, bean dips have about 25 calories per tablespoon. Get a calories counter book that will tell you how much calories are in certain food. If you keep your main meals, breakfast, lunch, dinners to around 300 calories each you'll still have lots of extra calories for snacks. Even a piece of fried chicken from Popeyes is around 300 or so calories. My hb is eating what he normally likes to eat, the breads, the cookies, whatever. He's just not having as much as he used to. The first 30 days, the pounds were just falling off. Almost 1.5 pounds per day. In the first 30 days he lost 18 pounds with out any excercise. He's in this for 100 days because him a some of his co-workers all ante $100 each to see who can loose the most percentage of weight within $100 days. With $600 at stake, my hb just totally dug his heals right in. Also not eating after 7pm is a must you can not deviate from that. If you did not get all your calories in b4 7pm, then you loose those calories and do not carry them over til the next day. Another great snack is 100 calories pack of pop corn. He's also bought a bunch of the lean cuisine meals that are about 300 calories each. It makes the whole calories calculating a lot easier. But then don't forget the grilled chicken and grilled fish. He's not a veggetable eater so he has limited his options on this matter, but if you like veggies you can do a quick veggie stir fry and it would be great. Let me know if you need other food suggestions. Doing it this way will allow you to keep it off because you are not changing what you eat, just how much of it.

Now me, I've been trying to loose 10 pounds for 2.5 years, but I eat what and how much I want but I do put in about 45 mins of cardio a day. Its taken me 2.5 years to loose the 10 pounds. And then on the week before my menstral starts it seem as if I've gained 5 of it back.

So good luck and send me an email if you need more food suggestions. A.

F., I highly recommend Dr. Phil's book. It is called " The Ultimate Weightloss Solution Cookbook." I bought mine at Walmart. It is a very simple and easy to follow diet that teaches you how to eat to be healthy for the rest of your life. I lost over 30 lbs and I am not a young chick anymore! Ha! Ha! I know you can do it if I did. Think positive and one of the secrets is that I changed from regular sodas to diet soda and Crystal light. The Peach Tea Crystal Light is delicious and I buy the Chocolate Jello SUGARFREE pudding in the cups and put cool whip on top for a treat. Best of luck and God bless. You will feel SO MUCH BETTER!

Two things I have used that have helped. Add more water to your daily routine. Drink 1 (8 oz glass) with breakfast, 1 mid morning, one before lunch, one after lunch, 1 mid afternoon, 1 before dinner and 1 after dinner and 1 before bed. You will go to the bathroom alot for a few days until the body gets used to the increased water but it really works.

Second, eat a half cup of rice about 30 minutes before your meals. The rice will expand in your stomach and the rice will hit your blood stream about the time you sit down to eat. It takes 20-30 minutes from the time you take your first bite for the glucose to hit your bloodstream and another few minutes for your hunger switch to realize that you have food in your system. You will feel full faster. Make the rice ahead adn it warms up nicely in the microwave. There are tons of different kinds of rice and they each have a unique flavor, consistency and I found many different kinds of rice I actually enjoyed. My favorite treat was Wehani rice. It looks like apple seeds when you start to cook it. It has a wonderful flavor that goes well with roast. So experiment, try something new and let your family try them also, they just might like it.

I lost almost 100 lbs and have kept it off by eating the rice and adding the water.

I know this post is a few years old, but in case a new comer like myself reads it. I have a 5 month old and I am desperately trying to lose the weight I gained with her. My husband and I are going on a scuba diving trip this summer and I don't want to have to get a new wet suit!!

I found "Mom and Baby Fitness" DVD from Parenting magazine at Target. The have one for toddlers as well. It's a yoga, pilates exercise and you use your child for added weight. The best part is you can either do the whole 50 minute workout, but who really has time for that!! Or it's broken up into 5 busy mom workouts. I so far have done the belly workout and the baby yoga workout. The belly one was difficult the first time I couldn't do everything she did, but the second time around I actually finished the workout. I have already started to notice a difference. My daughter LOVES the baby yoga. She laughs and giggles, thinks it's great. It was the best $13 I've spent!

Hey I had my son in march of 2005 and something that has reall ybeen helping me loose the 100 pounds I gained during my pregnancy with him is doing a lot of pilates and dieting. Of course I am sure you know that chasing after your little one also is a great way to get exercise. My son actually does the pilates with me. I found it was a fun way for both of us to bond as well.

Hi F.,

The key to weight loss is Pilates, fast-paced bike riding and a cardio exercise machine that you must pull with your arms. These exercises target the right areas. Most importantly, you must be disciplined in you eating habits. Log onto www.winsorpilates.com for the DVDs, it is a hard work out but practice makes perfect. You will see results in weeks, I did.

I hope this helps.

LOL
I'm in the SAME boat!!
I just can't seem to get even close to my pre-pregnancy weight!!

I have found though, that I feel ALOT better when I work out. I haven't lost all the weight yet, but just working out and getting in shape really changes my feelings about my body and helps me to eat better. Which as we all know will eventually lead to a better body.

It all starts with a good routine
good diet
and good exercise plan.

We joined the local Y (in Katy) and we love it.
I recommend looking into the gyms around you, or any community groups that get together and workout at maybe the local community gym.

Good luck :)

F.,

I was overweight from the time I was six years old. I did the Dr. Phil Weight Loss Solution at age 30 and took off the weight (BMI 21) including the weight from 2 pregnancies. I have been pregnant twice since then and can take the weight back off in a few months. And the food you eat is an ideal diet for when you're nursing or pregnant again (if you choose to be) because you just add more servings to your already healthy food plan.

You can find Dr. Phil's book online, at a bookstore, Walmart, or eBay.

Best wishes,
S.

I would suggest Weight Watchers. Don't look for a quick fix. Also, taking pills will not help you in the long run. You need to learn how to eat healthy and learn what your body needs. Yes you can lose weight with Slimfast and pills. But once you don't need them anymore you could go back to your old eating habits and gain the weight back.

I am in the same boat... i have one that is going to be 3 in october and i am just now losing the weight. i noticed that i got into a sedentary lifestyle and wasnt really watching what i ate anymore. what has been working for me is two things. one, i have gotten more active. its not that i ran out and joined a gym, but around the house for example, i clean every morning, i work in my front yard, i play with the kids... things like that.. it has gotten me off the couch... i also have started watching what i eat. To maintain the weight i was (187) i was taking in over 3000 calories a day! i had no idea! i cut down to 1500-1200 a day by using slimfast shakes... the powder, not the premixed. i also noticed that most of the fat i was keeping on, was where i carried my kids, in my lower stomach, hips, thighs, butt... i started adding in *Cortislim*. what this does is alleviates some stress and helps you control your appetite. i had gotten into a routine of eating whenever i wanted to and whatever i wanted to... this helps me control that. i have dropped about 25 pounds (163) and feel soo much better. I did this in about 4 months. I dont know if it will work for you, everyone is different, but its what i have done. good luck, its the one things they dont tell you about when you get pregnant... or maybe its the one thing we dont listen to! =-)

Everyone has had GREAT suggestions. I think the most important thing to do is NOT give up. I used to think that if I had a small set back that I had failed and would just quit. But just because you eat a cheeseburger one day doesn't mean the whole thing is blown... just pick up where you left off after the cheeseburger... and don't get down about it! Good luck!

about pilates....i tried the pregnant pilates a few years ago when i was preggo with my 1st. i thought it was terribly hard and couldn't balance at all for the exercises (obviously, b/c i was preggo, lol, i'll never understand that!). so i told my hubby it was too hard and he laughed at me and i told him "fine do it with me!" so he did, well we did maybe half the video and he stopped and said it was the HARDEST thing he'd done in his life! mind you, he's in the army! been through basic and field exercises and everything!
my advice for tummy fat is CRUNCHES. not situps! situps will turn the fat into muscle and you don't want a huge muscular tummy lol! the crunches will burn off the extra fat and skin. also leg lifts (lying on your side on the floor, lift the top leg), pushups, and walking. i also agree with drinking more water. tea or 100% juice is better than soda as well. also, try to prepare most of your meals from scratch, b/c this eliminates a lot of preservatives that are not good for your body.
good luck! and don't worry if you never get down to your origional weight! having a baby changes your body forever!
