5 Year Old Becoming VERY Defiant...

My girls, ages 5 and 6, are good kids, REALLY good kids, until recently... and I'm a tough love mom. If the girls both get in trouble for something, my 6 year old immediately says 'Sorry mom, I won't do it again' and then she'll correct the problem. The 5 year old will just STARE at me with this ATTITUDE. If I ask her 'Did you hear what I just said??' and she'll kind of shrug her shoulders with the same defiant 'I don't care' attitude. I'll say 'MADISON! What do you say?!' and she'll finally roll her eyes and mumble 'yes ma'am'... WHAT IS...

Safe Arts & Crafts for Babies

Looking for fun, safe arts & crafts ideas for our 8 month old. Just a little something to start tapping into her artistic side. Everything she plays with goes in her mouth. I've seen non toxic finger paints in stores but of course they're not going to say it's edible. Any creative ideas? One friend suggested crayons as the least harmful? Pudding? Or just good old finger paints under close supervision? Thanks!

Gift Ideas for a 5 Year Old Girl

Two weeks ago my family moved to a new state. We have only had a chance to meet a couple of our neighbors. One of which invited us to her 5 year old daughter's birthday this coming weekend. She thought it would be a great chance for us to meet the other neighbors. The birthday is a come and go as you please party in their yard. They will also be inviting other neighbors from the surrounding few blocks. I also think this is a great opportunity to become part of our new neighborhood. I have only one child, a 22 month old son, so I have...

Help with a 6 Year Old

I need help with my 6 year old he's outta hand. He likes to tell me waht to do and not to listen to me. Any time you tell him to do something he throws a fit. If he doesn't get his own way in school he throws a temper tantrum. If you ground him all he says his I'm telling on you. His dad doesn't help me any either because when he does go see his dad he gets his way and he walks all over his dad and his dad thinks that's okay. Please help me deal with him.

Teen Cell Phone Vs. No Cell Phone

I have yet to see something about taking a stand against cell phones. My son has been asking, actually begging me to get him one (he is 16). We have gone round and round on the issue. He poses a very good argument as do I. I need some additional insight as to why he should and should not have one. He is a “good” teen as much as I can tell but I worry about the TEXTING that gets out of control, the phone calls in the middle of the night or alone in his bedroom, who is calling and how long or often is he chatting with a girl or his...

My 5 Year Old Has Excema

My 5 year old daughter has excema. When she was an infant, it was so bad that she has scratches all over her face. She was reffered to a determatologist. He gave me some cream w/a prescription in it. This does not help her at all. We have controlled the dryness on her scalp by using T-gel ut her skin is still very dry. Last time we couldn't control the dryness, the doctor put her on steriods for 7 days. I hate the fact that the only way to help her skin is to put her on steriods. I have heard lots of bad thing about steriods. The doctor...

School Lunch Box Recommendations

I am going to send my little guy with lunch to school. He will leave the house around 7 am and will eat around noon. I am looking for a lunch box suggestion. Insulated? Did you send ice packs to keep stuff cold? Did it work? I am new to this, so any help is appreciated. The lunch box will have to be purchased online because I am on bed rest and cannot leave the house, so please send online recommendations! Thanks moms!

Does Your Baby Sleep in a Play Pen?

My 5 month old has been sleeping in a play pen in our bedroom since she was born. Well my mother continues to tell me how uncomfortable she must be and how we should feel terrible for not setting the crib up for her. - My oldest just turned 3 and we took the crib down when she was 18 months, dont really have the room to put it back up anywhere - The baby has sleep through the night since she was 2 months old, so we dont think there is any issue. So my question is has anyone elses child sleep there "baby" months in a play pen? Is...

How Much Crying Is Normal for a 5 Year Old?

I’d love some insight because my niece “Emily” seems to go straight to tears a LOT over just about any minor disappointment, and I’m not sure if that’s normal for a 5 year old or if I have unrealistic ideas about how well 5 year olds should be able to manage their emotions. She goes from zero to shrieking and sobbing about every 15 or 20 minutes. Not quite temper-tantrum level - she is usually (but not always) able to calm down and go about her business within 3-5 minutes. It’s just constant and it gets on my nerves. For...
