What Chores Do You Expect from Your 10 Year Old and What Discipline Do You Use

My 10 year old daughter is uncooperative when asked to assist around the house. There is a power struggle and attitude when asked to perform even simple tasks. Then everything escalates on both sides. I am curious what other moms are experiencing and what forms of discipline seems to be effective. I feel like our relationship is great as long as nothing is asked of her. She normally is a sweet considerate kid, until it's time for chores, then the fireworks start. What's normal?

13 Year Old Daughter's Behavior

Hello, My 13 year old daughter is in the 8th grade and has started hanging around with, in my opinion, a rough bunch of girls. She has a bad attitude about everything, very negative, she tells me that she hates me on a regular basis. She comes home from school, goes to her room and shuts the door. If I let her do that then that's the last time we see her until she gets hungry. She doesn't join the family at all... My husband and I have decided that the less she talks to the people at school the better so we unplugged her internet and...

14 Year Old That Has a Lot of Headaches

I have a 14 year old son that has headaches quite often. He wears glasses, so that is not the problem. He comes home from school daily with a headache. I have taken him to the doctor and they have no answers for me. Does any one have this problem. He has had them on and off for 3 or 4 years now.

Riding a Bike W/out Training Wheels

Hi Moms, How many of your 7 year olds are riding a bike without training wheels? my just turned 7 year old daughter is very hesitant to learn to ride a bike. She will ride a little with training wheels but does not want to try without them. It's ok if she isn't that interested in riding a bike but I would like her to at least know how to do it without the training wheels. Should she know by now?

Bed Time for 10 Year Old

I am the mother of 3 healthy, active children. Recently, my husband and I have been in disagreement about what time my oldest (10 years old) should be allowed to stay up at night. I feel 8:45 for the 10 yr old is good since he must be up at 6:45am to get the bus at 7:30 am for school. I am the one who gets the kids ready for bed, reads to them, makes sure teeth are brushed, etc and my husband travels for work often so he is not home. When he is home he is usually watching TV, especially sports in the evening. But, my husband thinks the...

12 Year Old Boys...

My girlfriend has a 12 year old boy that is truly driving her nuts. I give as good of advice as I can, but really I raised girls, Im sure its different. Her son, has started "dating" a 13 year old girl (who mom doesnt like hehe), is pretty disrespectful to his mom, he is spoiled with cash & fancy electronics by his Dad that lives in a different city. He wants to "go out" on dates with the girlfriend, I think in groups it should be ok...? He has no experience using transit alone- I think now is a good time to learn... theres a bunch of stuff...

What Chores Do You Require of a 12 Year Old?

My dd is busy outside of school with sports practice 3 days/week and we are usually gone on the weekends. I haven't required a whole lot of chores of my kids because I'm a stay at home mom and I actually prefer to do most myself (I'm pretty picky about laundry and I have lots of breakables when cleaning). But, it probably would be good to give my 12 yo some chores just so she's trained to do certain things. What do you give your pre-teen for chorse?

Advice on 12 Year-old Shaving Hairy Thighs....

My 12 year old daughter has been shaving her legs now for probably over a year. She has very "hairy" legs, although not "black" hair, she is lucky in that respect. The hair is very blonde, but very thick. I have held her over this long just having her shave the bottom of her legs and not her thighs. She has asked and pleaded to do the top as well and I have just kept giving her excuses why she shouldn't (trying to hold her off doing it as long as I could). I told her that once she starts the upper half, the time it takes to shave doubles,...

Toys All Over

If the kids are are toddler, preschool and preschool, do I let it go and have the house overrun with toys? If I put them all downstairs (the toys, not the kids), what was the point of buying the toys? We have hurt feet from stepping on stuff. It's stressful. We can barely walk and have a path anywhere. I just cleaned for an hour, and the child dumped the toy bins all over the floor right away. Wanting to give up cleaning! Even cutting back and having just some out, quickly becomes a mess. Plus, we cannot vacuum.
