When Do You 'Age' Your Baby?

So my DD will be turning 9 months old on the 30th... So she is closer to being 9 months, but I still 'claim' her as being 8 months old when other people ask me how old she is... I was just wondering if other mommas are like me and still call their baby the age they are until they actually hit the date, or if they go by whatever age they are closer to?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ha ha. thanks mommas. I do the 'almost' thing sometimes too... but I was just wondering about other mothers... A few of you reminded me of the guy on Grown Ups. ("how old is your son?" "-uh, 72 months-" "That's 6 years old!' "-...Yeah..." lol.) Hee hee. :)

I say whatever age they actually are at the time. But please don't be one of these parents who state "little Susie is 29 months". When it gets to that point--she's 2 yrs. Plain and simple.

There are SO many people who say 'almost <insert what ever age>' and just round up. It irks me.
How many of them round down (and down and down) their own age once they've hit 39?
I've never done that with my son.
He's 12 until his next birthday.
I'm 49 till my next birthday.

I say 8 1/2 months in a case like you have right now. Or I specify 9 months on the 30th.

I 'quarter' with just turned x, x and a half, and almost x, (months or years accordingly). What bothers me most is when people do NOT quit using months to age their kids. I actually had a woman say to me the other day that her daughters were 49 months (so......4?) and 72 months (hello!!!! She's SIX!!!).

I say a little over __ months, or almost __ months. In your example Its less than a week away, so I'd say almost 9 months. Now that my son is 17 months (17 months 2 1/2 weeks ;) ) I say year and a half to most people, and will probably say that until he's within a month or two of 2 then I'll say he's almost 2

Once they hit 1 I quit counting months.

I agree with so many others; after 2 years the month thing is a little silly.

I mean, I don't walk around saying I'm 444 months old.

I didn't/don't have a hard and fast rule.

Sometimes I might say he's 8 months, sometimes he's almost 9 months, sometimes he'll be 9 monts on the 30th...

I always say..."she's almost _____".
What I don't like is when people say their child is 31 months old, 47 months old, etc.....once they're over 2, just call it 2.
My daughter is almost 2 (her bday is in Feb).

I'd say she'll be nine months next week. After a year, I just say my kids are "one" or "one and a half" and leave it at that. Otherwise, people have to do calculations in their head to figure out what you really mean.

With it that close I would say, my DD will be 9 months on the 30th. Now my youngest son will be 9 on the 8th of Feb so I say he will be 9 in a couple weeks. I just have always do that. Now if the age change is months away I would say the true age.

Yeah, I do the "almost" or "about" when they're close to the next age.

I have one 3 yr old daughter, so when she was an infant, I always said the month, yet if she was a week away or so to the next month, I would say she'll be (9) months in a week. I stopped giving months when she was getting close to 2. Then I started saying, she'll be 2 in a couple of months, one month... now she just turned 3 in Nov, so I say, she just turned 3 in Nov! Lol...I guess untill she hits the 3 1/2 mark. After 2 giving the age in months is a bit silly, IMO. :-)

I say whatever milestone they hit last, from 0 to 4 weeks it is by week or day last hit for 1 to 12 months it is the month number last hit. ie (my baby walked at 9 months, not almost 10 when in fact she walked at 9 month 1 week) then after a year i will say either a year, or a little over a year, or almost 2, and so on.

I never do the 12, 24, 48 month thing

Until babies are 1 lots of moms say "they are X wees old" If you want to use months then from birthdate to the next month birthdate is one month. If you don't do that your baby will be 13 months old when he turns one year old and that will confuse everyone. So, if he was born on the 1st then he is a month older every month on the first. Otherwise he is X weeks old.

Most everyone stops with calling it months when the child reaches 2 years old. Many milestones happen in the toddler year and they can be noted easier if you refer to the child as 15 months old, 18 months old, etc...then after 2 they are just 2, 2 1/2, 3....

I call them the age that they are, even if they turn the next month or year in 2 days. I would say, "she is 8 1/2 months but will be 9 months in 3 days!"
