What Does Your Baby Hang Onto?

My baby (16 months), since she was around 6 months has held onto this (ugly) orange pillow. Its tube shapped, covered in a stretchy material and has micro beads inside of it (and its more then half her size). She has played/cuddled with that more then any stuffed animal or blankie. We named it squishy and she knows it by name. LOL. So I was just wondering, besides stuffed animals and blankies what other strange things have your babies held onto?
This is just meant to be a fun question. =)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for responding! My baby still continues to tote around her "squishy." Although I must admit after I posted this I began to fear that one day squishy will not make it through the washer/dryer. We put it in a pillow case, but just doesn't get as clean as straight in the machines. Our squishy was a free gift with a bulk purchase at my SIL's place of work. No one wanted the ugly orange pillow so she took it. After watching our baby one night she would not let it go, so it quickly came home with us. It's been on road trips, sleepovers, sitting in a chair at dinner time, sitting in the hallway during bath time, and even one time in the bath tub (man babies are quick at throwing things!). I honestly don't care if she keeps the ugly orange squishy for the rest of her life, I think its cute! Thanks again!

A pillow case... it was white and felt kind of silky. She was quite upset when her daycare provider threw it away (because it was thinning and had a whole in it). She like to rub it when she would go to sleep. She still remembers it and she is now 11, ahhh my baby.

I sleep in men's jockey undershirts. When my son was a baby I gave him one that I had slept in because it smelled like me - thinking it would comfort him. He started carrying them around the house and sleeping with them. He also collects them... he usually has 2 or 3 or 4 at one time. They are better than a toy or blanket because we don't have to worry about losing them. Now all my sleep shirts have chocolate milk and Cheetoh stains on them.

Ears! The boy is obsessed with them. It started at around 8 months old, I was hoping he would grow out of it by now but no, 2 and still hanging strong with the ears. It's kind of funny because everyone that knows him knows about it and we make a joke if he grabs your ears that means he really likes you.

My six year old has always carried around a towel with him you know the baby towels that have a hoodie on one corner. Well he calls it towie and he can't sleep with out it. When ever I do laundry I have to wash it with out him knowing or he'll get very upset, since he says that the dirtier the better for him.....eewww I know...lol I asked him once why he still held on to that thing and he said " Cuase it feels me better" he meant because it makes him feel better. That was a gift from a baby shower, it started of blue very thick towel and now it's white very paper thin...lol since I wash it in clorox because he rubbs his lips and his face with it when he's tired.

My 3 1/2 year old loves her "soft" (she named it) which we refer to as her crib bumper. Ever since she was a little tiny baby she fell asleep gently caressing her "soft", till this day this is what she does - oh, and she also knows what position she wants certain parts of her soft to be in, has to work with the position she likes to lay in. I've tried changing it around and it's though she can't find her "spot" if it's been moved around.

Now, she's not in her crib anymore, she's been in her twin size bed for a while now but, we had to attach her "soft" to her big girl bed. She was lucky we bought a bunk bed but, only needed to use the top part with the front side rail (at floor level) so this helps in holding up her soft. I'd like to take this rail down but, this would mean she'd loose her soft and she's not having it! This is totally her comfort zone. I'm guessing she can just hold on to it in her bed once I remove the front rail but, it definitely will not be in the position she likes. I'll just keep the rail up a little longer, I like that she finds something so simple sooooo very meaningful to her.

My son is 2 and likes to carry around and also sleep with baby wash cloths (about 3 at a time). He loves the feeling of those little cloths we normally put under their neck when newborn and drinking a bottle. He's been on a sippie cup since he was 18 months but, I can't store all my baby wash cloths because he uses them in this sense. He moves around in his sleep and reaches out to find one of his little cloths, I usually position them for him through the night when I check up on the both of them. Again, I like that he finds comfort in this, the only problem would be when my daughter takes them away from him to use as a blanket for one of her babies:)

My daughter has Ellie (a small Horton Hears a Who Elephant) and Puff Puff (a small fleece blanket) that she HAS to have for naps or bed. I let her bring them out of her room when she's sick or watching a movie on a rainy day. I think sleeping time would awful without E&P as I call them, LOL! She did hold on to ribbons for a while. My sister is a florist and would give her lengths of ribbon and she LOVED to hold it and rub it between her fingers. It's funny what they decide is their thing.

My daughter had (and still has) her Snowman. My son had his blanket - I replaced the binding ribbon around the edge twice. He never carried it around. He just had it in his bed and then as he got older, he put it on his pillow. It's stuffed in his closet but he won't let me throw it out.
YMMV

My daughter who is now 3 1/2 has held onto burpie cloths since she was an infant. When she was really tiny, she had to take one with her everywhere we went, but now she just likes to hold one when she sleeps! She even has names for them!

Hi J., you are either going to think this is funny, or that I'm weird. I have a squishy, and that's what i call it, it's a spiderman pillow, with the microbeads I hold it everynight when i'm sleeping, I even take it with me when we go out of town. My 15 month old clings to this blanket that was our dogs when she was a puppy, it has monkeys on it, as do some of her blankets, but she likes this paticula blanket (It's been washed since the dog used it as a puppy) we had always kept it with our dogs toys and she would always go grab it, certain things, give them security, the smell, the texture of something it's different for different baby's/ toddlers, for my little brother it was a dryer sheet that he called his silkie. Cute story, J.

My son is three now but He's gone through a few "carrying" phases. He's carried around little cars (always one in each hand), socks (any sock, he loved picking one fresh from the dryer and would carry it around for the next few hours). But my all time favorite was the chapstick phase. He was two when he had the chapstick phase and he always wanted chapstick in his hand. At first I was worried that he'd open it up and make a mess but he never did. He would use it occasionally (even let me use it when my lips were dry). Oh and it HAD to be the original Chapstick with the dark blue label or he wouldn't take it. I tried giving him others but they were never good enough. Have fun with those little funny phases while they last.

My 9 1/2 month old never really held onto any toys or items that he can't let go of. He does hold onto or grab his bib alot that's around his neck. When he doesn't have his bib on, he would grab the part of the shirt where the bib would have been. I think grabbing his bib or shirt gives him comfort. He does that alot when he is tired.

My oldest daughter received a rabbit-doll made out of various colors of socks when she was about 2. My niece made it for her when she was 10. Now my daughter is 10 (niece will be 18! YIKES) and still takes "Rabby" with her to over-nights (even if she does stay in her bag!) and she has a permanent place on the bed. That poor doll has been through so much, but she still loves her as much as she did when she was a baby. My other two don't really have anything they "can't part with".

My 3 yo son has Mear. He is a brown teddy bear that Logan has slept with since he was 3 months old. As a new born he liked to bury his face to sleep and I used the teddy bear to allow him to bury and know he wouldn't sufficate. It still goes everywhere with us. After 3 years it has been stiched up and looks gross! I am excited to keep it forever! It's name is mear because it was said before Bear. OH I love that he has this, my older never had a 'special' thing :)

My middle child has 'penguin'... this thing was something I had from MY childhood, nothing special, just a stupid terrycloth penguin. Penguin needs a bath, and badly ;) My son is only 6 months old but has to have his blankie, a crocheted (sp??) blanket so he can stick his fingers and toes through and pull it up over his face. He will not sleep without it. My oldest daughter used to have 'kitty pillow'. It was this awful, creepy looking pillow with a big pink cat head on it, and a tail on the other end. She would rub the tip of the tail on her nose to fall asleep. Kitty pillow 'died' in the wash, all the stuffing came out... and she still wanted it. Kids and their lovies are SO FUNNY!

My 2-year-old daughter has Dino, a green dinosaur stuffed animal with blue spots. He has bean-bag-like feet that she pushes in and rubs, so now he looks more like a snake b/c he doesn't have any feet!
