Waitressing After Having a Baby

So I've been thinking about taking a waitressing job part time but my baby was just born on March 3 rd, how long do you think it is recommended to wait until you can lift weight? For this job I would obviously have to carry heavy plates. My next appointment is on the 21 st of this month, but I would like to know of other moms that have work lifting weight after their pregnancy and how long did you waited to start working.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the info. I am going to wait 6 weeks, since that's what everybody kind of agrees on (I also have to wait for my post partum appointment to see what my doc says) , but unfortunately I can't postpone it any longer, so I guess 6 weeks would have to do.
Thanks again for your advice!

You need to wait until you are medically cleared by your doctor, which is 4-6 weeks postpartum. Congrats on your new baby!

I waited five months. We were financially strapped, but could make it work. Even then, it was a little rough going back (think breast pump in the storage room and a baby who refused the bottle), but we were able to manage. I think I didn't expect the emotional transition, which was certainly present. I guess we're all different, and also some of us don't get to wait even if we want/physically should. But if possible, I recommend waiting for at least a few months. Good luck, take it easy and congratulations.

(Remember, the more your able to rest NOW the sooner your recovery will be. Try, if at all possible, to JUST care for your baby...not the dishes, vacuuming, taking out garbage, etc., for at least the first three weeks.)

6 weeks, I have been a waitress and a manager for most of my life and you want to wait about 6 weeks imo... I had many preg waitresses and I told them, (we had leave) to take up their whole leave before they come back this is not a job where you can "take it easy" you could however start as a hostess right away. Plus, you want to be extra careful about keeping clean since there are TONS of things you can pick up in that industry.

I'd give yourself 6-8 weeks to get used to having a new baby before taking on ANY job. I know that sometimes it's not financially possible, but that time goes so fast and they are so tiny. I went back to work at 12 weeks (not heavy lifting, but FT), and it was tough. Not only do you have physical recovery, you'll be tired, and mentally it can be hard.

Congrats on your little one. I hope you find the right solution that works for your family.
