My 11 month old daughter has recently started to grind her front teeth. When I catch her grinding I give her her toothbrush or her raspberry teether to chew on. I know that she is getting used to the new sensation of having top & bottom teeth, but I worry about the long term negative effects. Her 1st dentist consultation is in 3 weeks, but in the meantime I'm curious to know what tricks worked for others in similar situations. Thanks!
First she is going to early to the dentist. Our dentist said not till there three. Shes is going and basically not going to be able to do much for her. Her teeth are still comming in and it is normal for them to grind them just ask her to stop when she does it. If she likes to chew than more power to you to give her something to chew on but she is just fine. Plus she is grinding baby teeth that are going to come out anyway.

All 3 of my kinds did it and they stopped just a suddenly as it started. On ill effects!
ditto the other two responses... when my daughter would grind her teeth, i would just interrupt it by reminding her not to do it. i didn't scold her... just let her know that it's not good for her teeth.
I am a dental hygienist and a mom of a 16 month old boy :) My son also did the same thing around 11 months. At this young of an age it is best to not make a big deal out of it. The more attention she gets from it the more she will do it. I would squeeze his cheeks gently to get him to stop and then distract him. It seemed to work and he didn't do it for long. Most likely it is a small phase she is going through and she will probably stop soon. Hope this helps!
