He may feel the need to chew on something with new teeth and teething. Give hime a variety of "chew toys" teething things when he grinds. A wet washcloth, frozen waffle, teething toy, whatever.

Let him do it...My doctor told me, the more attention you puts towards it the more they want to do it and causes more problems. Trust, me I know how annoying it is hear to that sound-my little guy used to do it a lot. I think they realize they are there and it becomes a little habit (for my son it went away pretty quickly). Wow, your son has a lot of teeth already, my little guy only has 6 and he's 1 today!

Yeah my daughter did that too around that age. She thought it was SO funny! So I just let her do it for awhile and she eventually got bored w/ it and moved on. I think they just like to experiment and see how those choppers work and what they can do! I wouldn't worry about it, it's a horrible sound but more than likely it'll just pass after a little while. Good luck!!

Both my kids did this at that age, and a little later. I think they're just getting used to their new teeth. Not much you can do to stop it. I gave my kids teething rings when they did it and it seemed to help a bit.

It's perfectly normal, although alarming to us, to have a child grind their teeth at that age. They are just getting used to having something new in their mouth. It will stop. Adults grind because they are stressed, children grind because the teeth are new and different and they can make a strange new noise.

I am a dental hygienist and the first time I heard my daughter grinding it alarmed me and I know better. So hang in there and it will pass.

Sincerely,
J.

My 11 month old is still doing it. She started when she was about 8-9 months old when she started cutting teeth, and it actually got worse for awhile when they came in (I think she was just getting used to them). Then she stopped for awhile, and now that she's cutting more teeth it's back! Horrible sound - so annoying! I've been trying to give her a chew toy, and just get ignore it! Good luck!

Both of my kids starting grinding their teeth around that time. My daughter started doing it and I reacted and tried everything to get it to stop. I swear she did it more then. Then I talked to a dentist and he said it is normal and not a big deal so I relaxed about it. My son did it too but I didn't react or try to get him to stop and he seemed to stop a lot quicker. My daughter's teeth are still fine - no damage! It is a horrible sound though, isn't it!?
