I was wondering if any of the moms out there have had any dark spots appear on their face during their pregnancy. I am pretty sure it was pregnancy related because one day during my pregnancy it was just there. Anyway, I have been using fade it cream by Palmers and that has helped some-it has not completely gone away though. Thanks for any imput. N.

What can I do next?

I recommend making a dermatologist appointment and have them looked at, better to be safe than sorry, and they may be able to prescribe something to help the spots fade.

I am on my third pregnancy and yes I have had a few. It is part of the mask of pregnancy and takes a while to go away. Mine have faded several months after havnig the baby. It is annoying because you think it is age spots. :) If it doesn't fade in few months go get checked by a dermatologist. Babycenter.com or baby.com have great articles on the changing of pregnancy and body and they featured the brown spot. SO did Cosmo they had a great article on the changes of body durning pregnancy it was in this month magazine.....

Hi...it may be from the pregnancy, and may not. I developed spots on my belly, and arms while being prego (more like moles though). I am not sure what your spots look like or how big they are. Maybe have them checked out if they continues to enlarge or even change in color. It never hurts to have anything out of wack checked.

Hello N.,

I too developed hyperpigmentation on my face during my pregnancy (I am the mother of a beautiful 11 month old boy). I believe the medical term is melasma (commonly referred to as the "mask of pregnancy"). Fortunately for me, for the most part my discoloration began to resolve itself by my third trimester, though it is my understanding that it in some women it remains long after childbirth. I am, however, quite manic about protecting my skin from sun exposure which can exacerbate discoloration (minimum SPF 30). Take caution with the use of fade creams containing hydroquinone which has been linked to cancer.

Hi N.,
The spot on your face could be a gorgeous "pregnancy mask". I believe the proper term is melasma or chloasma. A hydroquinone cream will fade it, but you need to wait until after you have the baby. Tri-Luma is tha brand I used and it worked wonderfully. It is a prescription cream. For now, make sure you either stay out of the sun and wear a good spf product on your face. The sun will make the spots far worse. Good luck!

i had the same thing. a red dot in the middle of my forehead.(i have a fair complexion with pink tones) everyone told me that it was an old wives tale; that if i had it (the birth mark), than my child would be born without one. my now 11mth old was born without a birth mark and a couple of days after birth, the dot disappeared. i just put a little concealer on it. i wouldn't worry about it too much. if it is still there a couple of months after birth, then it might not be from the pregnancy and you might want to check it out.
