A friend's grandpa did an 'add on' quilt for her every year... He made her a small quilt when she was born, then every October she would give it back to him and he would add on another row of squares along one side, so it would take 4 years to go all the way around it.. according to what she would like at that time. (patterns, prints, colors, whatever.) It was so mis-matched, but that made it even better. So every year the quilt got bigger and bigger. She absolutely loved that thing! He died when she was 35, and now has that quilt as a keepsake of the grandpa she loved so much. :)

You could get her a charm bracelet. Then for future holidays/special events you can give her a charm.

Or you could give her a special ornament every year.

i give my daughter a snowman every year. Snowmen never go out of style...ummm, I guess i'm not sure how plentiful they are in Texas...but it's fun to find the "perfect" one each year. Sometimes I find it and it is a surprise, and some years it finds us when we are out together. Snow globes, ornaments, statues, and even stuffed ones have been added to her collection over the years. I hope that when she moves into her own "first place" she will be surrounded by years of good memories.

Whatever you pick will make it a special tradition that will be something to look forward to with excitement and joy. Happy shopping!!

If you are thinking about the "My First Christmas" ornament, check with her mom first. I ended up with THREE for my son!! Sure they were all different, but I wish he had ONE special one. (Then again if one ever breaks, there are backups.)

You could pick a different ornament series that has the year printed on it every year.
My mom has many of these and they are so cute! http://bit.ly/SnowBuddies
Here are a few that are FIRST in the series this year:
http://bit.ly/Kringleville (my favorite - it moves!)
http://bit.ly/FrostyFun (this one will only have ten)
http://bit.ly/OhSoSweet

You could give her a Santa Claus every year - preferably with the year on it somewhere - either an ornament or a figurine. Same for Reindeer or Snowmen.

Baby's First Christmas picture frame or photo album
Scrapbook (make one if you are crafty, with picture 'frames' and room for journaling)
Recordable gift with your Christmas wish, memories, or special moments in your voice

What an awesome Auntie! I love the idea of this. I know it sounds really simple....but what about an ornament every Christmas? We did this for our oldest son and will be doing it now for our new lil guy. Of course, the first few years we picked them out ourselves. But now that our son is a little older, he picks his own out. We go to a place in the mall (the ONLY time I'm caught in a mall at Christmas LOL) and they have those ornaments that you can write the childs name on them and the year. My son's tend to reflect on what he was in to that year or what was important to him....

1st Chistmas.....Obviously a 1st Christmas ornament
2nd Christmas.....a tricycle (he was just learning how to ride one by then)
3rd Christmas.....a guitar shaped ornament (he was very into playing Guitar Hero that year with daddy)
4th Christams.....Spongebob ornament. He loved that stupid yellow sponge.
5th Christmas....I'm a big brother (we were pregnant at the time with #2)

You get the idea......you could technically even just use the ornament as her gift tag (so its not the only thing you buy her....I know THAT temptation LOL)

Seriously, these ornaments mean SO much to me and HE also looks forward to picking out his special ornament now that he's older. This could be something special you take your neice out to do every yr when she gets a little older (like probably by next yr). Check your local mall....they usually set up these little shops right near where Santa is.....

Well- I know its a bit too early for her to use it....but I saw at Things Remembered a silver baby comb and brush set....and on the brush you can get her name engraved and whatever else you want on it- her birthday, a message from you...etc. I thought it would be a cute idea. OR maybe even a little water globe ?Each year you could get her one for Christmas....She probably wont enjoy something like that for awhile but when she gets older she will cherish them.
