M.,

Have you tried putting a little cereal in her bottle? Just try two teaspoons of cereal with her milk and you will see a difference the first night. It just sounds like she's getting hungry too often.

It's been a while since I dealt with this, but I think I was told that by about 4 mos. an infant should probably get through the night without eating. I know it's the easiest way to get them to sleep, but maybe you could try getting her to settle herself back down without a feeding. There's different methods... lots of books out there to help a child learn to go to sleep on their own and put themselves back to sleep on their own. We used a variation of the Ferber method, which lots of people think is mean but I disagree... it helped my kids learn early a very important lesson... how to get a good nights sleep.

Hi M.,
you may still have a while, my 18 month old still wakes up once for a feeding, then once more in the early a.m. Illness and teething are a couple of things that will wake them up more often. Usually after the 2 year molars they will sleep longer.Just hang in there, it will happen naturally!

M.,
My first dughter slept through the night at 3 months, but my second daughter didn't start sleeping through thenight until she was about 9 months old.....now that she's 13 months she still occasionally wakes up. Its just who she is. Each baby is different. There are lots of books and advice out there about how to get your baby to sleep through the night, but evey 'method' I've tried has always boiled down to letting 'em cry it out. Good Luck!

When i was pregnant a lady at my bank told me to buy a book called Babywise I. Its methods really work! Since my 1st daughter I have used its methods & its worked I also gave it as gifts to every shower I attended. Moms say it's the most useful gift they received.

Also, my mom & doctor said to put cereal in the last bottle of the night.

FYI the gist of the method is to feed your baby on your shedule.

There really is no set time for children to sleep through the night. My son is 4 and still wakes up. Try soothing methods that help babies sleep...maybe he/she won't wake up so often if their confortable and relaxed.

My son just turned 6 months and has been sleeping through the night since he was about 3 1/2 months old. I know at first he woke up constantly and we found out it was because he really wasn't getting enough to eat ( I was breastfeeding). Once we added formula, and sometimes a small amount of rice cereal to his bottle, he did great! Also, when she starts crying try reassuring her without picking her up so she may soothe herself back to sleep...

each kid is different
mine is still nursing up to 3 times a night - especially when teething. sometimes she does sleep straight through the night but not usually
i wouldn't worry about it unless you really can't deal with it. we've got a sysstem that works here - it just means I go to bed earlier than i would otherwise so that i still get enough sleep
good luck

Hi M., my 18 month old did not sleep all night until he was about 12 months. I nursed him until he was 16 months. He only wakes up when he is sick.

I also have a 3 year old that still does not sleep all night. So that is how different children can be.

All kids are different. Really, the only way to get them to sleep through the night is to have them "cry it out." If your not up for this, which I wasn't until about a year, then you will just have to keep getting up. A lot of babies don't sleep through until well after a year on there own. Hope you get some sleep soon!

I know this was written a little while ago, but I wanted to respond.

No, there is NOTHING wrong with a child who doesn't sleep through the night at 6 months old, or 12, or 18, or 24. Some kids do, some don't. There's no set age at which babies should be sleeping through the night. She could need the extra nutrition, the extra time to reconnect with you. I know you must be exhausted, being a working mom and dealing with night wakings! Is it possible for you to bring her into bed with you? She may sleep longer that way, and if you're nursing it would be a lot easier if she's right there to feed.

I'd really recommend The No Cry Sleep Solution, by Elizabeth Pantley. Check out www.ezzo.info - Ezzo's information (Babywise) could be very dangerous, the AAP advises parents not to follow it.

Just follow her cues and eventually she'll start sleeping through.
