Seeking Examples of Schedules for 20 Wk Baby

I have a daily routine or schedule and I use it to have something to vary from. I don't stick to it like glue. I'd like to see some other schedules from different mom's. Sometimes I actually have to look at the schedule to see what we should be doing, so I can get an idea of where we are at. Does that make sense? Mostly because my husband works from home and it can be tuff going with my mom and baby vibe.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for giving me your ideas. I really liked the actual schedules you shared. The baby now has two nap times and is in his crib at 7pm after his bath etc. He didn't even come close to keeping his schedule yesterday but we've had a lot of days he is right on it. We have between noon and three ( all aprox ) for running errands or seeing friends. At times he should be sleeping I try to keep him quite and in his room, rocking chair or crib... until it's close to wake up time. I really need to know where I'm suppose to be with him or the day is way too much of a time warp. Then of course there are those days when you don't mind that, so anyway.. I love the advice and the moms!

after the bottle it was into the bath and getting dressed
then she got some rice cereal (with a fruit)
tummy time
11a bottle and down for a nap
when she wakes up she got some rice cereal and a couple ounces
tummy time
3p rice cereal (with a vegie) bottle and down for 2nd nap
(i didnt ever let my child sleep past 5p and if she woke before 5 she gets tummy time till dinner)
5p rice cereal (with a vegie)
tummy time
6p quite time before bed (just mommy daddy and baby)
6:30-7p bottle then bed

thats what worked for my baby and while i did all that i took care of a set of twins a month younger then her and i put them all on the same schedual (because the twins werent schedualed)... GOOD LUCK!!!!

are you looking for "schedules" in terms of naps?
I too used the Baby Whisperer book by Tracy Hogg, with my first child, as a "guideline."

For napping, it's good to have a schedule... then, as the baby gets older, they will have good sleep habits... it also "teaches" them when naps are and they will be less prone to protest about it. I have done that with my son, and now at 22 months old, he still naps twice a day at 9:30 in the morning and then at 2:30-3:00 in the afternoon, at which time my 5 year old daughter ALSO naps. It is great, for me, and them... they are rarely over-tired or fussy because they get adequate and needed sleep. It is also good for their development and brain development. I believe in "regularity" per sleep habits... it has been a positive thing for me and the kids.

In fact, they are both taking their afternoon nap right now. So it's "my" time. :)

Depending on yourself... some don't like to have "schedules." It's up to you.

Basically, a child/baby has a pattern of: wake up, nurse/feed, awake time, then nap.

I arrange my own schedule around my child's nap times... they only sleep/nap at home... not when I am out on the road or in the car. At home is where they get the best sleep. So, at those times I am home. This also gives me a great way to "schedule" myself too, since I "know" they nap at certain times... that way my and their schedule is not willy-nilly nor do I have to "guess" at when they should nap. So I am able to plan ahead and schedule things fine. My Hubby also likes that I have taken the time to "teach" my kids about a nap routine... that way, it's easier for him (LOL) since he knows he can count on them napping at a certain time, and he can schedule things around that as well. It's more predictable that way when you "know" when your kids will nap.

Well that is just what I have done. No matter what, consistency is important. For me, I stick to their nap times like glue... unless I really can't avoid it.

Good luck
~Susan

This my daugter's schedule! She is 22 weeks old.

7:30 AM - wake up, bottle, play
9:30 AM - Nap
11:00 AM - wake up, bottle, play
12:00 PM - nap
2:00 PM - wake up, bottle, play
3:30 PM - nap
5:00 PM - wake up, bottle, play
7:15 PM - bath, story, bottle
8:00 PM - bed time

She sleeps through the night, until about 7:30, sometimes she wakes up around 5, but I let her sooth herself back to sleep...if it takes longer than 15 minutes, then I know she wants to nurse.

Hope this helps.

My baby just turned 6 months and figuring out a schedule is the best thing we have done for her. She is so much more content and relaxed when she gets the sleep she craves and the routine seems to makes her feel secure. I am not a very organized "scheduled" type of person...so it took us a few months to figure this all out. But once I paid attention to te babies cues...it has been smooth sailing since.

Mostly, I really watch for tired signs and as soon as she starts fussing or rubbing her eyes....it is nap time. I find that even a half hour diversion from nap time will throw off a whole day.

A typical day for us involves....

6:30 Wake up
Bottle, Play
7:30 Nap
My time to pay bills, do dishes, laundry house stuff etc.
9 am
Bottle, Play, Walk
11:30 Nap
That is my time to get together what we need for our daily outing and shower.
1 pm
Errands and get out of the house
Somewhere between 2 and 4 she needs another nap. I find she sleeps much better at home in her crib.
7 pm bedtime routine...bath, bottle, book and bed.

I hear at 6 months some are ready to cut out one of those 3 naps...but I also know babies at 18 months who still take 2 or 3. Just follow your babies cues. I also find the better she naps during the day...the better she sleeps at night.

both of my children have had similar schedules at that age, basically:
7am wake, nurse, eat (about 8am), play, nap
11am wake, nurse, eat (about 12/12:30), nap
3pm wake, nurse, play, eat (about 5:30), nurse, bed (7/7:30)

all the best!

Hi S.,
My babies are toddlers now (3 and 2) but if memory serves me correctly, their schedule at 5 months was very much like the schedule from Christina D. We just started the day and ended the day a little bit earlier (wake up at 7 am, bedtime at 7 pm). And it was right around 5 months that they no longer needed that third short nap in the late afternoon. If your little one is still waking in the middle of the night for a feeding, I will share a tip with you (someone shared this with me and I was so greatful, then I passed it on to a friend whose 9 mo. old was still waking in the middle of the night and she was so greatful - so I like to share it whenever I can!). If your baby goes to bed earlier in the evening than you do, wake the baby before you go to bed and feed him again, then you all may get through the night with uninterrupted sleep. This worked great for me with both of my babies, and it solved my friend's problem with the middle of the night feeding. It was right around 5 months that my babies no longer needed this late night feeding, but every baby is different.
Somewhere around 15-18 months a lot of babies drop the morning nap and have one afternoon nap. When that happens, lunch moves up a little earlier and then nap right after lunch.
I have found routine to be very helpful through all the stages of parenting I have experienced so far. Not everyone likes routines so it depends on what works for your family. But if you like it, don't let anyone discourage you (I have known some people to be vehemently against it). I find that it is great for the kids, and even my mom, who raised 7 kids and didn't know anything about scheduling, now sees the benefits, and how happy and content my boys are, and thinks it is a great idea. With my babies, especially the first, I didn't feel confident in those "instincts" everyone told me to follow. So for me, scheduling helped me be confident that I was giving my babies what they needed.
My boys still love their routine and thrive on it. They know what to expect throughout the day, and it helps to avoid some of the common battles that happen with toddlers (particularly naptime and bedtime). Just yesterday, my 3 year old had finished lunch and said, "I'm going to go upstairs for naptime." Not only do I not have to battle with him, he wants to do it! I love it!
I hope this is not too much more information than you wanted - sorry if it is! Happy parenting to you and blessings to your family.

I have found that if you follow your baby's cues you won't need a set "schedule". My 15 month old cues me when she's hungry and tired and it just happened to fall into a lovely daily schedule. She rountinely takes 2 hour naps everyday and goes to bed around the same time every night. Her meals fall around the smae time everyday too! Our babies are very smart and will let us know when they want something. Don't stress a "schedule". Especially if you're a stay at home mom. It will all work out!!!! :-)
