Pregnant on Mirena?

Has anyone ever gotten pregnant while on Mirena? It's been a looong time since I've been on the boards, but I have to ask this. ***SKIP IF TO BOTTOM QUESTION IF YOU DONT WANNA READ MY SYMPTOMS N ALL THAT lol***I started noticing pregnancy symptoms (bloating, eating everything in sight, low dull backache, etc) before I got my period. I don't know when I noticed them though. Anyway I started my period and this one is pretty light. More than spotting I have blood in the toilet after I pee (sorry tmi) but not enough to fill up a pad. I'm currently only using panty liners. But I have been nauseous, extremely bloated, I hate eating fried foods but craved every single fried thing you could imagine. Last night I ate onion rings, mozerella sticks, and an oreo shake and a few bites of a sandwich. But I'm moody, emotional, but also have never had a pms symptom or period symptom since my son was born almost 10 months ago. I was also experiencing cramps and backache. Which made me nervous because thes were my pregnancy sumptoms with my son. I woke up this morning and yesterday absolutely starving and super thirsty.

So my question is this: for those who have gotten pregnant while on Mirena, did you bleed while you still had it in?

Im just freaking out a little because I have had no zero symptoms from day one. I've had it in for almost a year and only now I feel any period symptom or any slightest pms. I did have crazy mood swings in the beginning, but that has long ago subsided. This is all new to me since having my boy. Weird. I'm pretty nervous about this, but I don't want to sound silly and call my doctor over nothing.

What can I do next?

I did a quick web search and, yes, rarely women get pregnant while using a Mirena IUD. Call your doctor and find out what's going on. One woman had false negatives with home pregnancy tests, but another woman confirmed her pregnancy with one. I know that when I've been afraid that my doctor would think I was silly, he (or she, when I've had a woman -- right now my doctor is a man) has always been glad that I'd asked and has made me feel almost as if it would be silly for me not to have asked! I hope your doctor answers the same way. Good luck!

I haven't gotten pregnant while using the Mirena, but most of those symptoms sound familiar. Every month I have period like symptoms but never more than spot (sometimes in the toilet as well) , bloating and breaking out, and emotional craziness.... I am sure everyone is different, but I would say that maybe your body is adjusting to being on it now, and maybe your body is starting to go back to normal after having a baby 10 months ago... It most likely is nothing, BUT I would take a test because one of the side effects of a pregnancy while the Mirena is in can be eptopic pregnancy. OH and you can also try to check to see if you can still feel the coils to make sure its still in place. Hope this helps at least a little...:)

You should probably take a pregnancy test. That is how you will know if you are pregnant or not. Chances are slim that you are pregnant, but could happen. Again take a test and call your doctor if you need some reassurance.

I got pregnant with a Mirena. I had it in for nearly 2 years, all the while my cycles were so irregular and so when I missed my period I figured it was just the hormones or something. I had to have the Mirena removed when I was 6 weeks along and I did get an infection. I now have a healthy 3 year old whom I love and don't regret having but it was a rocky pregnancy. Good luck!

I also have the Mirena and the first year I didn't have a menstrual at all. The Dr. had told me that it will level off and my menstrual should start up again that my body was going through an adjustment period. Sure enough, 1 year and a month later I got a really light one but what freaked me out was I too had similar pregnancy symptoms. This went on for a couple months ( two pregnancy tests and another Dr visit later to confirm I wasn't crazy) and then that too gradually leveled off. I've had the Mirena in for 4 years now and still have light periods but none of the other symptoms. No contraceptive is a 100% but the Mirena is pretty reliable however I highly recommend you visit the Dr. for your own peace of mind.

You should definitely go to your doctor. If you are pregnant, you need to know ASAP and have your IUD removed. If you're not pregnant you should be sure you aren't developing an infection or other problem because of the IUD.

I would go in as soon as you can. If its nothing - you'll be relieved, but better to find out now than later.
