Potty-training - Memphis,TN

Mirlax is what the doctor's subscribed for my son. You can now buy it over the counter. 1/2 to one cap full a day mixed in his orange juice every morning. Mirlax prevents hard stools and constipation. It can be used for an entire year without worries as it is not a laxitive.
My son did not want to go either so I would give him a prize after each time he went. I went to the dollar store and picked up some toys to use as the prizes. We called them pooping prizes. Good luck and keep a close eye on this as you do not want it to develop into something worst. Because it can.

He is probably just holding it in. Just give a half a capful of Miralax for 7 days to help with the ease of passing. He has probably been holding so long that it's a little compacted. Miralax is gentle and not as traumatic as a suppository.
As for the behavioral- My son loves Go Diego, Go. There was an episode on TV about Ana the Anaconda. Once he went in the potty and we told him "Look! There's an anaconda in the toilet!". Gross, I know. But he thought that was hilarious and we haven't had any problems with him holding it in since. Now when he goes, he screams, "There's an anaconda in the toilet!" We all laugh and he is so proud. lol All I am saying is try to find something fun to relate the experience to so that it's not so scary. Maybe the book "Everyone Poops" or something like that... most kids have trouble with pooping in the potty. from what I've heard, they are afraid because the poop actually falls from their body. They dont have that sensation in a diaper.

It's awesome that he wants to wear his big boy underwear. If he tends to go at the same time everyday, maybe it could just be "potty time". My son was scared and when he got that panicked look on his face and I knew that he had to poop, i went with him to the bathroom and i held his hands and "Pulled the poops out". I pulled on his hands. It took a few tries but he did get it fairly quickly. He just has to see that it's not scary.

many children freak about pooing, as they think they are falling out. Do you have a dog or cat? Show him how they go poop, and that is good and normal. Explain the process as best you can on that level. That we eat, our body takes the nourishment, and the extra goes down the toilet. Good luck and God bless.

I agree with the Miralax. But I beleive it is adictive. My son has been on it for months now. But he wound up getting constipated so many times that he stretched out his colon. The doctor believes that he has temporarally lost the ablilty to feel when he has to go poop. Keep a close on it and good luck.
