Plus-size Clothes for Little Girls?

hello all!!!
my question today is regarding clothes. Sylvia is turning 6 in a little less than 2 weeks, and I would love to update her clothes a little. For the past year, we've had a hard time finding clothes that fit her properly.
The issue that we run into is mostly in buying pants. Being a little chubby, she requires a 10/12 in girls, this leaves us with the issue of length. I'm constantly needing to cut off the bottoms of her pants and hem them up, but then they end up looking weird.
Another concern, but not so much so, is shirts.
To get a shirt that fits around her, we end up buying shirts that are too long in the sleeves, and usually too low cut, because they are made for older, taller girls.
So I'm wondering if anybody out there knows of a place that we can find clothes that are specifically cut to fit a larger child. I know they sell plus-size children's clothes at Old Navy and Gap, but those are a little out of my price range.

NO, we do not make a big deal about weight to Sylvia. I was chubby as a child, and my mom never let me forget it. So much so, that when I started picking out my own clothes, I picked bigger clothes, usually men's clothes, to cover the body that I had grown up being told was disgusting.
I would never say things to cause my child to think poorly of herself, and when she asks me if she fat, (yeah at 5 she asks me that) I make sure to tell her that she's beautiful, and beauty comes in all shapes & sizes.
Sorry to rant, but the last time I asked advice about her weight, I got a lot of responses telling me not to make a big deal of her weight, or make her feel ashamed of herself.

Thanks,
C.

My daughter is now 14 and we struggled with buying her clothes for years....as the above posters mentioned...JC Penny is where we shopped. They have a plus size section for young girls that fit my daughter great!!!...I dont know what I would've done without them. In the last couple of years, I buy pants and have them hemmed as my daughter has reached at age where she is not growing as fast...

Good Luck,
R.

My daughter is 4 and we have run into the same problems in the past. Things have gotten easier, but a couple of suggestions.

1. I used to buy up Capri pants like they were going out of style. You can get the right size for the waist and the length ends up being just about right.

2. JCPenny also sells plus sizes for girls. You may be able to get away with a smaller size that will fit better in the length.

Hope this helps!

JC Penney's has a whole seciton of girls plus clothes... I think they start at a size 7. I've seen the section and it seems to have a lot of the same clothes as in the girls section. I'm pretty sure Limited Too has a section too but that would be more along the prices at GAP. You may want to check online too, because I know several places will have a larger selection online than they do in the store. I hope this is helpful.

I am very interested in the responses that you will get. I have a 5 year daughter who is also a little on the round side. The only hint I have to offer is something that we do. My daughter needs to buy pants that are at least an 8 or 10, but they are way too long. So we are always on the hunt for capri pants (all year long). My family knows to watch the sale racks for them too in other states. The capris end up fitting her in length perfectly. Take care and hope to read some more ideas. I am not the best seamstress and it shows on my daughters clothes.

Hi Cinthia.

I don't know where to find plus size clothing for kids, but I can tell you how to hem jeans so that they look like they came from the factory that way. I used to do this to make blue jean shorts for my boys when they were little and you couldn't tell that we didn't get them from the store this way. Look at the thread color on the jeans, match it exactly then put in a double row of stitching at the hem.

Hope this helps some.
Infinite Blessings!
Kristy
