I picked up my daughter Sat from the babysitters and she was coughing and had a fever. Sat night she was so-so, meds seemed to help her through the night. Yesterday (Sunday) she got worse, coughing throughout the day and running a fever around 102 (I was able to get it to 101 with motrin).

Last night was really bad, her fever spiked to 103 and I was about to take her to the hospital but put her in the bath and kept wiping her down, and giving her Motrin and I was able to keep it down throughout the night.

Today the fever is staying between 100 and 101 with the Motrin, but the cough is bad, she just can't stop! I am using Sudafed PE Cold & Cough, which doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I don't know if I should let it run its course, try a different cough medicine, or if I should take her in.

Do any of you have any great Pediatricians in North St Pete (Feather Sound area) that you recommend?

What can I do next?

Take her to a pediatrician. Whatever it is, it's going around. My daughter and all of her friends were sick, including adults. My daughter had a sinus infection also. He put her on antibiotics. She is doing much better. I don't think you should give her cough medicine though. Just give her Motrin, TLC, and take her to the doctor.

Hey there - just wanted to let you know that both my boys had this same thing - my older son is still sick with it and has had a fever on and off for 2 weeks! And the cough never ends. We use Kids Delsym for cough supressant (so he can sleep at night).

We did take them to the walk in and got antibiotics, but I really think this thing has to just run it's course.

Good luck!

Hey there,

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I don't know of any peds in the Feather Sound area, but the one we use is on 4th St N and 65th Ave N. She is great and so is her NP. I actually just switched my son to her practice last month and have seen the NP, Cassidy. The entire office is very friendly. Here is their info:

6540 4th Street North, Suite C (parking in rear)
St. Petersburg, FL 33702
Phone (727) 526-PEDS(7337)
Fax (727) 528-PEDS(7337)

Hope this helps.
