Hello mamas,
I'm new to Austin, from Dallas, and was hoping for your recommendations on an excellent Pediatrician for my 19 month old little boy, as well as our new one on the way. It would probably be best that the doctor is affiliated with Seton (38th St) since that's probably where I'll deliver our new baby. It would also be nice if the doctor was as close to Lakeway as possible. But, that's not a must-have requirement.

In addition, does anyone have a recommendation on daycare providers in this area? A good veterinarian?

Thanks so much for all of your help, mamas!
D.

Hi D.: Welcome! We live in Lake Point, just down the road from Lakeway.

My 2 yo goes to Dr. Valerie Wheelock at Barton Creek Pediatrics. Her office is slightly outside of Lakeway. http://www.bartoncreekpediatrics.com/ (I am pretty sure she is affiliated with Seton on 38th; she took the practice over from Dr. Weaver about 2 yrs ago... Dr. Weaver did the customary newborn visit to the hospital after our daughter was born. So, even though Dr. Wheeloch didn't visit the hospital for us, I'm pretty sure that she took over whatever Dr. Weaver had in place before retiring.)

Pediatric dentist is Dr. Kyle Raymond (5656 Bee Caves Rd Ste B-104
Austin, TX 78746; Phone: ###-###-####) Not in Lakeway; 10 minutes down Bee Caves Rd.

Pediatric ENT specialist is Dr. Karen Stierman at the West Lake location (http://www.austinentmd.com/) Nor in Lakeway; 15 minutes down Bee Caves Rd.

Hi D.,

I recently moved back to Austin from Dallas (Lakewood area) after 13 years of being away. Welcome back!

We are using Dr. Juliette Owens of Pediatric Associates of Austin for my 18 month old son and really like her. We haven't found a daycare or vet yet, so can't help you there.

Email me privately if you are interested in a playdate!

Hi D.,

I too recently moved back to Austin from Allen after being away for 10 years. We also see Dr. Juliette Owens at Pediatric Associates of Austin just across the street from Seton. She's great - we really like her and all the other docs in the practice too. My little guy is 4 and a half months and being a first time mom, I've made LOTS of trips to the pediatrician! :-)

I don't have any recommendations on vets or daycare... but I'm sure there will be plenty of great options and ideas from other moms here!!

Welcome to Lakeway!

We also live in the area and to be honest right now there are not a lot of options for local Pediatricians. I take my 11 month old to Capital Pediatrics which is right over by Seton Medical Center on 39th St. They are fantastic and I love our Doctor (Dr. Sandra Treybig). But the location is not very convenient for quick trips.

I have hear good things about Bee Cave Pediatrics, which I beleive is off of Bee Caves Road near Walsh Tarlton. Again, not super convenient but a tiny bit closer.

The good news is that there will be a new hospital in Lakeway in 2010 and there will be full Pediatric services associated with that facility and a new group of Pediatricians to choose from. that is a ways off in the future but it will be handy once it happens.

Regarding Day Care, visit Kids-R-Kids right on 620 near Lakeway Blvd. It is a very cool place and they always get rave reviews. We have had a nanny since our little guy was born but we are losing her in January and I am enrolling him at that location.

Best of luck!

I second the rec for Dr. Wheelock. She was recommended to us by someone on Mamasource and separately by a friend, and we could not be happier with our choice.

Our vet is Dr. Oliver at Oliver Animal Hospital on Wm Cannon at Escarpment. We had been with the same vet for 10 years (Bryker Wood Veterinarian) and continued to use them after we moved to Southwest Austin. Then one day a few months ago our golden literally inhaled his ball while we were playing fetch. I was at a dog park near my house, on foot. I had to flag down a car and get my dog to the nearest vet hospital before he stopped breathing. The nearest vet happened to be Dr. Oliver's Hospital. I was so impressed with the care and service my dog got (he actually stopped breathing right after we got to Dr. Oliver's) that we transferred the care of our beloved family pets to Dr. Oliver.

Incidentally, in the same complex as Dr. Oliver is the Children's Courtyard. My daughter does not go there yet ,but of all the day cares that we visited in our neighborhood, this was by far our favorite and the baby is set to go there next summer.

Good luck and welcome to Austin!

Lakehills Montessori Bee Caves is a wonderful school and is located on 620 close to 71. I am pretty sure they take kids as young as 18 months.
