I'm looking for a dentist, one who specializes in children, for my 3 1/2 year old son. We live in Chantilly, so I was hoping there was one that's close by home. My son has never been to a dentist yet, so we are looking for one who's great with kids and has lots of patience. Any recommendations are welcomed.

So What Happened?

I want to thank all the mother's for their recommendation on Pediatric or family dentists. My son had his first appointment today with Dr. Shirley Bethel and it was great! Dr. Bethel and her staff are great with children and Nicholas was so relaxed and cooperative. I also want to mention that he has NO cavities... Praise God!!

I second the recommendation of Dr. Niloo in Oakton! She's wonderful and has lots of ways to put kids at ease. Her website is www.oaktonsmiles.com.

I have the best Pediatric Dentist who just moved her office last year to Chantilly, which was bad for us since we live in Lorton, but we still drive out there because she is so good. Whether you need just regular check ups or major work she can do it all in a great kid friendly environment. Our son has had to have a few oral surgeries due to his rotted teeth (adopted from Russia at age 3). When our daughter fell on her mouth she hit her front tooth and it twisted 90 degrees, very scary. We were going to go to the emergency room since it was 8 pm but decided to call the dentist just incase. The dentist called us back before we got out the door and told us she would meet us at her office. She had already arrived with a nurse when we got there, they took x-rays and removed the tooth. Anyway her name is Shirley F. Bethel, Pediatric Dentist ###-###-####

We use Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry in Gainesville. Not super close to Chantilly but right off of 66 on Rt. 29. They are wonderful and patient with the kids. They will use gas for cavities and can take the bitewings so fast the kids don't have time to gag!!! Good Luck.

I just had to put my 'plug' in for OUR dentist in Herndon...may be a bit far for you (and no metro) but for others closer, HE IS WONDERFUL!

He has seen my eldest (and all of my 7 kids ) since ryan took a tumble and loosened a tooth at 18 months. Ryan is 19, home from college, and will se "DR SERIOUS" (their mis pronunciation of his name that stuck, and he is any thing BUT serious!) in a week. He saw Ryan thu braces, and one of my kids has special needs, and he went 'above and beyond' for her as well!

Additionally, he has an 'open office' with several chairs, and when we would come, we would use ALL chairs in the open room...it was a 'family day' of dentistry!! (He (or a partner) does adults as well!) Seeing mommy getting 'teeth cleaned' (or a sib) de mystified the whole process for all!

I will say, on ONE visit...I had a cavity!! The kids have YET to let me live it down!!

Good luck

We use Dr Tran, near you. She is very nice, the staff is very compassionate. You can also go back with your child if you want to. You should also start with your daughter soon too. After all they do have teeth that should get cleaned just like yours. ###-###-####.

It's right off of 66, the Vienna exit. She's wonderful! Have recommended several people and they were all happy. I live in Fair Lakes and it didn't take long to get there at all.

Dr. O'Donnell is my dentist and he's fantastic! He's a family dentist, not specifically Pediatric, but I'm taking my 4 year old there for his first appt. in Oct. The ladies in the office suggested I bring him in with me once to give him a "ride in the chair" if he wanted. They were so very nice to him and really eased his anxiety about his turn. Next time, I'll get my teeth cleaned, then he gets his done right afterward. The dentist talked to him and joked with him. He's got kids of his own and has a great manner.

Dr. O'Donnell is in the shopping center with Giant food store on the corner of Braddock and Stone road in Centreville. If you take the Westfields exit off 28... West... go through the lights at the Safeway shopping center, then the next light is Braddock and Stone. You'll see Giant off to the left. The dentist's office is at the opposite end of the strip mall. Go in the door and up to the second floor. He's on the right just down the hall.

Clearly, I highly reccommend him.
