Need INCREDIBLE Dentist for My 22 Month Old

I am pretty devastated. My 22 month daughter has a cavity - my first inclination would be to assume that she had too much candy and her mother wasn't good about brushing her teeth but that's not so. My daughter isn't allowed candy - at all! She has a number of food allergies so I've continued breastfeeding her and she wakes often for feedings throughout the night so perhaps that's the cause? I just don't know. On top of that, I know my daughter is not going to sit still for an exam let alone for a filling! She screams when the doctor's office tries to weigh her. So my question is this...does anyone know of a GREAT pediatric dentist and does anyone have experience with cavities at such a young age? Her dad has bad teeth so perhaps that's where this came from? I'm just sad for her and don't want this to traumatize her. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

What can I do next?

BEST PED. DENTIST EVER??? Dr. Chris R. Simonsen! His office number: ###-###-#### He's located on 500 south in Bountiful UT. I went to him as a tot as well as ALL of my 20 odd cousins And I continue to drive from magna to bountiful for my son's appointments because he's so wonderful! His demeaner is sweet and reassuring but at the same time he is all for preventative treatment and explaining why we have to brush and floss all the time. His staff is full of sweet ladies and you won't be disappointed. be sure to give him a call. They're in the office mon, wed, and fri I believe. I'd almost call on a day off just to hear what a great guy he is- he leaves his HOME number in case of emergencies! seriously- call. (and he's not super pricey either) Good Luck :)

I was just talking to a friend about this. She moved out of SLC a year ago and I just moved here and she randomly told me the other day that if I needed a dentist I should go to Eric Smith. He is in SLC. She is an adult, but he does pediatrics also. She ranted and raved about him. She said he has a great staff and a super office and he is a great dentist. Sorry I have not used him, but I will be using him here soon!!

I did take my oldest to a dentist office back in California. The nice thing was my sister in law worked there so my daughter did everything so well. They do have different things they can do when doing dental work. They can put her to sleep for procedures. You will have to pay more, but they have many options and they will usually discuss and find a great choice for you and your child.

I did a dental assisting course and every pediatric office has certain words they use not to scare kids-it is the same all over the US-so they get the same experience where ever they go. Well I wish you all the best. My oldest needs a filling because she has some horrible teeth from having a cleft lip. It is stressful!! Good luck and I hope you can find someone amazing and like I said my friend ranted and raved about Eric Smith.

I just looked more at Eric Smith. Some of his features are-Dental Phobia and Sedation Dentistry. They have overhead DVD's-so your daughter could watch something and they have wireless head phones-so maybe would drown out some of the noise. Sorry-hope this helps!!

Dr. Tom Sorensen in Murray. Just east of Fashion Place Mall. My kids both love him. He can put them completely out. Another option is to give your daughter versed. Its a prescirption totally mild form of valium and just chills them out a little before the appointment. My kids both used it and now they are so used to Dr. Tom that they don't need the versed anymore. My son also had cavities at a young age like that. Dr. Sorensen took care of them. Now all my kids use is the nasal laughing gas. Our appointments go very smoothly now. Good luck!

We went to see Dr. Lewis, but he's not a pediatric dentist. My son had a cavity young, but I KNOW that that's because his father gave him coca cola, ice cream, and candy whenever he wanted it. Since the cavities, though, he's been much better at healthier/less sweet foods.

My son was allergic to everything, too, and I breastfed him until he was three to make sure he was getting everything he needed. He had early cavities, too. And his cousin who also had a lot of food allergies and more severe than my son had awful teeth, too. His mom read that it was associated with the allergies.

Anyway, his cavity was between his front two teeth and knowing that those woudl fall out soon, I chose not to do anything about it. As it turns out, it took much longer than I expected for those teeth to fall out. A few years longer. But it was okay.

Meanwhile, though, he did get some cavities on molars that we needed to have filled and he's such a high strung kid that he was totally freaking out. We have had a wonderful experience with Jeff Burg at Burg Pediatric Dentistry. (www.burgpediatricdentistry.com). Dr. Burg is incredibly laid back and just doesn't get ruffled when my son is stressed out and worried and behaving badly. And the dental hygienists are awesome, too. The place is bright and colorful and fun with TVs above the chairs and plenty of toys to choose from. The waiting rooms are filled with toys and the office we go to in Sandy has a litle kids' nook with a movie showing. My kids look forward to going to the dentist there.

Good luck!
