My lil 6 month maltipoo is the love of my life. In fact, he is the love of all of us, but he gets to spend the most time with me because i am home all the time. We are taking our first vacation since we have gotten him. I toured a kennel place and could not do it. i am afraid he would spend most of the time in a crate, and since he gets antsy around other dogs, i think hearing other dogs bark would not be good for him. so i found a really nice puppysitter who will come stay at my house while we are gone.
My question is, will he forget us since he won't see us for a week? he will have someone loving on him and caring for him the entire time, but I am wondering will he think we abandoned him? Will he be sad during that week? I am really worried he will be heartbroken.
thanks mamas

This is a great situation! Your dog will be fine since he will be in his own home with a good pet sitter. He will have fun and wait patiently for you to come home. I just read an article about a dog that can smell his owners blood sugar and alert him if it is high or low. So I think you can rest assured your dog will not forget you after a week - they are super smart and have a great memory. Have fun!

Trust me........as long as the person you have gives him lots of love, exercise and attention he will be happy AND he will feel much better at home than in a kennel. GREAT choice!!

When you get home be prepared for the most happy, goofy, biggest greeting you have ever gotten from him. Dogs don't forget their people. Have a great trip!

You sound like me!! I absolutely hate putting my dog in a kennel, and I only do it about once or twice a year (if that!) BUT I know he's safe and taken care of. Plus, every time we've gone there, he greets the owner with such enthusiasm it convinces me that he is not mistreated!!! Dogs have great memories!!!

Even though your baby is very young, I sincerely doubt he'll forget you in that short of time. I think it's great he'll be able to stay in his own home while you're gone; that will help tremendously. Hopefully, the person coming to your house is not a total stranger either. Bottom line - he'll be fine and will greet you at the door when you come home and lick your face like crazy!!

Be sure and leave phone numbers where you and a vet can be reached!!

Good luck and have a great vacation!!!

He might be ticked off at you at first when you get home, but dogs are usually forgiving fairly quickly. ;)
Bring him a yummy from vacation.
