It took 4 kids to get on my nerve... lol My left foot, ankle, and left side of my calf went numb at about 7 months along (I had to wear an ankle brace to walk because when a pregnant woman falls over it scares people and I truly had no control over the darn thing.)... I went to the chiropractor and it helped immensely!

Talk with your doc... but 99% it's a nerve getting squashed (the other possibility is swelling / edema that can be taken care of... but that is a sign of toxemia/ low blood pressure, etc.). They'll know right away because they take your BP and do a urine sample every time you walk in. But 99% likely it's just a pesky nerve.

DO try paying attention to how you sit. You've got weight and "stiffness" in your middle... so we all start sitting differently. It may be as simple as you squishing the nerve yourself. (I do that all the time... I'm in chronic pain so when something flares up I don't even notice I've adjusted the way I sit/lean, until I go to stand up and realize I've leaned on a nerve and am tingly or numb/fall down).

We are strange creatures and built with "things" in strange places. In other words there are nerve ending all over our bodies and they are often attached to muscles and other parts-this being the case and you beoing pregnant-there is just no way to find what is tickling other parts. Tell your doctor and check with a nerve specialist (yes they are out there)-probably would need a referal from your primary doctor. It could be carpel tunnel in your arm/wrist and something very similiar in your leg but check with your doc-it may be brought on by the pregnancy. To wake up your hand-rub the middle of your wrist gently back and forth-this should help wake it. For your foot try rubbing your ankle. It might help for a bit.

Something similar happened to me, although it was further along in my 1st pregnancy. The dr. told me the baby was on a nerve & would go away when the baby was born. He was right! After I had my baby, the symptoms stopped! I'd check with your dr. though. Good luck!

I had this too with both of my hands. I was told it's the way the baby is pushing against your spinal cord and/or water retention (I never really felt like I was swollen). It may change with time as the baby moves or it may not. I've heard of some women having to wear braces or have surgery similar to carpal tunnel surgery in severe cases but usually surgery is not recommended unless it is really severe. I was never able to get get these symptoms to go away during my pregnancy but they went away about 3-4 weeks after I delivered. Hope this helps ease your fears.

it could be nerve related. perhaps a nerve is being affected by the pregnancy. i would call the nurse on monday and ask about it. i had a friend who had issues similar to that in her hand but it was farther in the preg and it was carpal tunal.

Same thing happened to a friend. The doctor said it was the baby squishing a nerve. The doctor decided to not let her go past her due date, but baby decided to come 2 days early anyways. Make sure you tell your doctor. I think this problem started in the third trimester for my friend.

several people suggested a chiropractor, and I just want to say that it is one of the safest and best things you can do pregnant. It can help with many symptoms associated with pregnancy, doesn't involve drugs that could hurt the baby, and can help you have an easier delivery. They are also generally inexpensive. My children and I all go monthly, and this pregnancy has had fewer pains than any other.

As I always suggest, go see a chiropractor!! I can't tell you how smooth my second pregnancy and labor went compared to my first without chiro. I wish I would have done it the first time. I didn't have an aching back, or swollen ankles. I was adjusted up until the day before I went into labor. My labor went quick and easy. I didn't receive an adjustment until I was 30 years old and now I can't sing the praises of chiropractic enough. It's usually covered by insurance, too.
