Is My Daughter Too Little??

Chloe has always been small for her age. She is 18 1/2 months old and weighs 21lb and 10 1/2oz and is 32 inches tall. I feed her constantly but lately she is getting so picky. She use to eat anything now she will either take one bite and not want anymore or she will just flat out refuse what is being offered. She is very active. I mean this child NEVER sits still. I am constantly running after her food in hand to make her eat. Does anyone one else have a small baby?

What can I do next?

My daughter is 27 months old, 22.5 lbs, and 34 inches tall. At just over 2 years old, she is just now making her way into 18-month clothes. I was concerned too and her doc said that as long as she is healthy and still growing, not to worry. She too has times when she won't eat anything at all. Then other days I can't fill her up. Instead of aiming for a balanced meal, he said to aim for a balanced week. She is very active and small for her age, but there is nothing wrong with her whatsoever.

1st Have your doctor been concerned?
You want tiny my daughter is 2 1/2 and weights about 20 pounds. She wears 18- 24 months clothes. I have stop trying to find out if anything is "wrong" with her and running blood test and other test b/c I have come to the conclusion she is just a small peanut. I think I like having average size kids or small than an overwieght kiddo (no offensive to anyone). I believe if the child is happy and Healthy there is nothing wrong with them being little.
Side note I'm 4'11, my MIL is 5'1 and my mother is 5'4 we are all petite women and I think she will be too. She was also a little premie too just by a few weeks.
Hope this helps and Good Luck

my son is almost 3 years old and weighs 25 pounds he is still wearing 18 month clothes and sometimes 12 months. she is fine as long as your doctor isnt concered. some kids are just small, also if you and your husband are small people then that is probably where she gets it from. my son went through the i am not eating it stage...it will pass just keep doing what your doing and enjoy your baby.

My daughter will be 3 in July she is 22 1/2 pounds and 33 1/2 inches tall. At one years old she was 17 lbs. I was worried at first because she is a very picky eater and was so small but the doctor says as long as she eats and is gaining wait and not losing it then she's fine. She is extremely active always running around so I figure she just burns off whatever she eats...lol She loves healthy foods like grapes, apples, yogurt so I just make sure I keep the fridge stocked with the things she loves and when she's hungry she tells me what she wants. I can't force her to eat what I want her to when I want her to, I've tried it doesn't work. The doctor said she's eating healthy just let her eat what she wants when she wants because she's so small and picky.
If your doctor's not worried about your daughter's weight I wouldn't worry about it. Every child is diffrent and all are diffrent sizes.....she's just one of the pettite ones.

My son is also little. He turned 2 in Feb and is 23 lbs and 34 inches. He is very active!! My Doc said that as long as he has gained weight at every appt then he is fine. He wants to eat constantly so I don't have a problem there. BUT, kids will eat when they are hungry...they won't starve themselves or let themselves go hungry. Just keep offering your daughter food and she will eat when she's hungry.

No stress!! Unless your doc says something is wrong. My daugther is 21 months and weighs 21 lbs also. She is just small! My husband's side of the family has very small people, and I *used* to be small myself :) lol, prebaby of course! My daughter can eat like a horse, but latley has also been picky. Just keep offering her things or try to prepare them differently. Hang in there! As long as she is growing she is fine.

Peyton, my daugther, has been following the 10% line since she was a few weeks old!! :) She is super healthy, hardly ever sick, so anyway, i hope that is enough info :) Email me if you want to!!

My Little girl is petite too, but only physically! She eats an enormous amount of food for her size, and has a personality to match. But she is completly healthy. If you still have reservations ask your pediatritian.

Hey Kimberley--
My daughter was 18 pounds at one year, and only 20 pounds by 2. Now almost 3, she is hovering around 25. I was really worried until we figured out she was taking after my husband's mom, who had almost those exact same weights recorded in HER baby book!

My daughter, as yours, started out eating everything, and then became VERY picky somewhere in between 1 and 2, just like your daughter. Now my second daughter (19 months) is starting to do the exact same thing! Bottom line, if you doctor isn't worried, and if she appears healthy and active otherwise, don't lose too much sleep over it! But do try to make every bite she takes count nutritionally since she isn't taking in as much right now.

Best wishes!!

My daughter is pretty small too. She has always been no higher than the 10th percentile in both weight and height and has spent most of her life around the 5th percentile. Her doctor is not concerned since she continues to grow along that same curve. She is 16 months old now and is actually starting to catch up a little. She was above the 10th percentile for weight for the first time (10th-25th) at her 15 month appointment, so she is starting to catch up a little. :-)

I am very petite and so is my grandmother and my husband is average height and build, so I just don't expect her to be very big. As long as your daughter is still growing and is developmentally on track, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I hated being small when I was a kid and my mom just kept telling me that "Good things come in small packages". I always thought it was cheesy, but you know...I think she just might be right!! Sounds like your daughter is really active and healthy, so just enjoy her.

Hi K.,
I wouldn't worry about it. Kids eat when they're ready. My daughter is 6 1/2 and can still wear a 2t if she weren't so tall. SHe just reached 40 lbs at her 6 year check-up after being 36 pounds for 18 months. However, she's almost 4 feet tall. My pediatrician didn't worry about it. She was healthy and extremely active and that's all that mattered. Have Fun!

I have been told, as long as your baby is growing - even if it is at a slower rate, or she has always been a little small for her age, dont worry about it! I know thats easy to say, but true. Dont stress yourself, until necessary : )
And all kids go through that stage of being picky and not eating as much. Just keep offering her different foods and she m ight surprise you one day and eat it all! My daughter went through that stage and she still has her days. My 6yr old has his days. As long as they eat, & drink, and grow...they're fine! Take Care.
