How to Stop Baby Biting?

I have a 18 months boy, he likes to bite people with his teeth, and he seems only bite people whom he is familiar with, such as parents and grand parents. We did ask him not to do this by saying "no" and others, but it doesn't work.
Any mom has the same experience and good solutions?

Thanks

C.

Every time he bites, flick his cheek right by where his top lip meets his bottom lip, and firmly say "no biting" or "You may NOT bite". Then give him a hug and go about the business of life. He will learn there is a painful consequence and stop. It's a simple cause and effect situation. My best to you!

i have an 18 mo old daughter who similarly has a problem with hitting. we've found that offering her an alternative to hitting puts a stop to it. we'll say ''no hitting. just hugs.'' and then she actually starts spontaneously hugging her brother. at this age 'no' is important but so is redirection.

Hi C.

My 2nd son used to bite all the time, and telling him 'no' didn't work for us either. We started biting back, it only took 2 times and he stopped. we didn't bite hard, just enough to let him know it didn't feel good.

Good luck

My son did the same thing at that age. I just kept telling him no, and because he is my second(and I already had established the spot), put him in the naughty spot as he got closer to 2. He used to do it quite a bit when he was teething, and I don't think he ever meant to hurt, but, he did occasionally bite a playmate. He's 2 and a half, and over it now.

Good luck!

Had the same problem. Then one day, I was doing dishes, she wanted my attention apparently and grabbed the inside of my thigh and took a chomp. Without even blinking, out of shear knee jerk reaction, I picked up her arm and bit her back. She never bit anyone again! Until I did that, I don't think she realized that she was hurting someone. She was looking to get their attention and for a while that was working.
